Manchester United is back in pre-season action against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday as two titans of European soccer collide. The showdown in Sweden will be PSG’s second fixture since beating Arsenal to a second straight Champions League title in May, with Luis Enrique’s men losing 3-0 to Mallorca on Wednesday.
Les Parisiens fielded a much-altered lineup against Los Piratas in Spain four days ago, featuring only a couple of regular starters. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Matvey Safonov were among those more senior figures to feature in the one-sided loss, along with Ilia Zabarnyi and Ibrahim Mbaye, each of whom could still leave the club this summer.
Michael Carrick’s side started pre-season in poor fashion following a 1-0 loss to Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham side last month. However, the Red Devils have since responded with victories against Atletico Madrid and Rosenborg, with summer signing Youri Tielemans in line to potentially make his United debut at Ullevi in Gothenburg.
Enrique’s selection is bound to look a lot different in Sweden as numerous stars who enjoyed post-World Cups breaks reintegrate back into the squad. However, the French contingent including the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue, as well as Spanish World Cup-winner Fabian Ruiz, are set to remain unavailable for the time being.
