Earth, Wind & Fire drummer John Paris was reportedly hospitalized following a critical cardiac incident on Thursday (Aug 6th). The group was forced to abruptly postpone their show with Lionel Richie at San Francisco’s Chase Center moments before show time.

“We are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at Chase Center in San Francisco due to a medical emergency involving a member of our band,” the band shared via social media. “As a result, tonight’s show with Lionel Richie will be rescheduled, with a new date to be announced soon.”

The band did not identify the member or release any further details. However, representatives clarified that core and longtime touring members Philip Bailey, Verdine White, and Ralph Johnson were not involved in the medical emergency.

Emergency responders rushed to the Chase Center around 5:30 pm on August 6th, moments before the R&B legends were set to take the stage for their Sing a Song All Night Long Tour.

The San Francisco Fire Department confirmed that a private ambulance transported a patient from the venue to a local hospital in critical condition following a cardiac incident. Subsequent reports identified the 58-year-old Paris as the band member involved.

The group has assured fans that tickets will be honored for a rescheduled date or refunded.

Neither the band nor Paris’ representatives have released further updates regarding his condition.
