Paris has been hospitalized since August 6th
Fans and the music community are rallying around Earth, Wind & Fire drummer John Paris after he suffered a medical emergency just before taking the stage in San Francisco last week. A GoFundMe has been set up to help Paris and his loved ones.
“Recently, just before taking the stage in San Francisco, John experienced a critical medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital. That evening’s concert was canceled, and John is now receiving the care he needs, surrounded by the love of his family and the prayers of countless friends and fans,” shares GoFundMe organizer Mashelle Clark.
She continues, “His wife, Kathy Merrick, a member of the legendary group Honey Cone, has remained by his side, along with their daughter, Kyla. With their home in the Los Angeles area, this unexpected medical crisis has brought not only emotional heartbreak, but also the growing burden of travel, lodging, meals, countless unexpected expenses, and the unforeseen challenges that lie ahead.
“So Kathy can remain where she needs to be—by John’s side—Shelly Clark White, founding member of Honey Cone, has canceled the group’s remaining performances for at least the next couple of months.
“As friends who love and care deeply for John and Kathy, Shelly Clark White and Wendy Smith-Brune’, member of Honey Cone, along with Tazz Cole, longtime friend of Shelly Clark White and Verdine White, have created this GoFundMe to help ease these unexpected expenses and challenges so Kathy can focus on what matters most—being by John’s side during this incredibly difficult time.”
Earth, Wind & Fire’s August 6th concert at the Chase Center was postponed at the last minute after emergency responders were called to the venue around 5:30 pm. The San Francisco Fire Department confirmed that a private ambulance transported Paris to a local hospital in critical condition following a cardiac incident.
The group has assured fans that tickets will be honored for a rescheduled date or refunded on their Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Lionel Richie.
