Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Safran Aircraft Engines have signed a long-term supply agreement for the production of superalloy turbine ring forgings for the CFM LEAP engine program. Through this agreement, HAL will support the French engine manufacturer’s strategy to further increase production capacity for the highly successful LEAP engine, which continues to experience strong global demand.
The near-net-shape turbine ring forgings will be manufactured at HAL’s state-of-the-art ring rolling facility within its Foundry & Forge Division in Bengaluru, India. These high-performance superalloy components are designed for the high-temperature rotating section of the engine and are among the most critical parts for the LEAP engine’s performance, durability, and reliability.
The agreement was signed by Praveen B., General Manager of HAL’s Foundry & Forge Division, and Dominique Dupuy, Senior Vice President Purchasing at Safran Aircraft Engines. The signing ceremony took place during the Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom, in the presence of Ravi K., Chairman and Managing Director of HAL, and Jayakrishnan S., CEO Bangalore of HAL.
“HAL and Safran share a long-standing and trusted partnership that has grown steadily over several decades,” said Ravi K. He emphasized that the new agreement reflects the increasing confidence of the global aerospace industry in HAL’s technological capabilities and manufacturing excellence. Participation in the LEAP program further strengthens HAL’s position as a global supplier to the civil aviation industry and demonstrates its ability to manufacture highly complex engine components in accordance with international quality standards.
HAL also sees the partnership as an important opportunity to further enhance its advanced manufacturing technologies and engineering expertise, creating capabilities that can support future engine programs in India.
Safran likewise described the agreement as an important milestone. Dominique Dupuy stated that expanding the collaboration is fully aligned with the company’s strategy of developing a stronger local supply chain while simultaneously increasing LEAP engine production capacity to meet growing global demand.
The multi-year agreement therefore marks another significant milestone in the long-standing industrial partnership between HAL and Safran Aircraft Engines and further reinforces the resilience of the international aerospace supply chain.
