When a TikTok video creator went to Tiffany & Co. to get her engagement ring cleaned, she wasn’t ready for the insult she was about to be subjected to. As soon as Quinton Westchester handed the ring to the staff and revealed that her ring belonged to Kay Jewelers, she was informed that the staff wouldn’t even touch any brand other than Tiffany & Co., per The Mary Sue.

“He was like, ‘Uh, what’s the number incorporated with it?’ I gave my wife’s number. I was like, ‘But she didn’t get my ring from Tiffany’s. He was like, ‘Oh, we’re not even allowed to touch rings that are not Tiffany pieces,’” Westchester said, per the outlet.

The employee holding the ring hurriedly returned it to Westchester and said that they couldn’t help the customer. “The way he looked at my ring and touched my ring, like it was just gross ’cause it wasn’t Tiffany’s. I feel so humbled ’cause what?” she added.

Tifanny & Co. might have to face difficulties cleaning a different ringhttps://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=4bUMKC_1EPNPgfJ00Providing cleaning services for a ring of a different brand could be problematic for them. BY: PEXELS

Given that jewellery is a premium category of products, it can cost brands heavily if they mess with it. Moreover, if it’s a Tiffany & Co. product, employees wouldn’t have to worry if something happens to it during cleaning. They can replace the gem or the metal or fix it entirely.

However, given that the ring belonged to a different brand, Tiffany & Co. would have to suffer much more in times of difficulty, as the staff wouldn’t have the required equipment or materials to repair it.

Tiffany & Co. doesn’t clarify its official policyhttps://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=267Tkq_1EPNPgfJ00Tiffany & Co. doesn’t clarify the guidelines for cleaning services at its stores. BY: UNSPLASH

Per the official policy of the company, the brand hasn’t clarified its cleaning services to the customers. “Tiffany boutiques offer on-site cleanings, subject to availability. Gold and platinum jewelry cleanings are complimentary, while sterling silver jewelry cleanings are available for a fee,” the official website of the company states.

There aren’t any specific guidelines about handling a product of a different brand. Meanwhile, some might consider the employees’ behavior “classist,” given the difference in pricing of products of the two companies.
