L’Oréal Canada has named Stéphane Bérubé as president and chief executive officer, effective June 1.

The appointment marks a historic milestone for the company as he becomes the first Canadian to lead the beauty giant in Canada.
A veteran of the company with more than two decades of experience, Bérubé began his career with L’Oréal Canada in 2002 as brand director for Maybelline New York. He went on to hold several senior leadership positions, including general manager of L’Oréal Paris Canada and chief marketing officer of L’Oréal Canada in 2014. Following a successful stint as chief marketing officer for Western Europe, he returned to Canada in 2019 to lead the consumer products division.
Bérubé succeeds An Verhulst-Santos, who has been appointed non-executive chairwoman of L’Oréal Brazil following a five-year tenure in Montreal. The appointment is also a first for the L’Oréal Group, with Verhulst-Santos taking on the newly created leadership role in Brazil, where she will represent the L’Oréal Group’s interests and reputation with key stakeholders and institutions.
The leadership changes also include the return of Stéphanie Binette to Canada. Binette will succeed Bérubé as head of the consumer products division after building a successful career with the company in the United States.
Earlier this year, L’Oréal Canada named Laurie Bouchard as chief corporate affairs and engagement officer.
