Bulgari and independent watchmaker and mechanical artist Vianney Halter chose to frame their collaboration on the movement itself, thus bringing together Bulgari’s in-house movement design and manufacturing expertise with Halter’s unique mechanical and, indeed, highly collectible universe. Following numerous notable and fan-favorite collaborations between Bulgari and Tadao Ando, Maximilan Büsser, Kazuyo Sejima, Laurent Grasso, Hiroshi Senju, Tatsuo Miyajima, Lee Ufan, Mattar Bin Lahej, this is the first time an independent watchmaker has reinterpreted the Octo Finissimo’s iconic movement for his own vision.

Vianney Halter — together with Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Product Creation Executive Director at Bulgari — took the Octo Finissimo into uncharted territory: a retro-future somewhere between the Victorian era and science fiction, a blend of Jules Verne and precision engineering. This reflects beautifully on Halter’s passion for aviation, mechanics and graphic novels that have shaped his immediately recognizable style — where mechanical sculptures function as timekeepers. His aesthetic is composed of industrial details, multiple displays and three-dimensional architectural complexity, making him one outstanding and highly collected personality of his generation.
Halter says, “I enjoy partnerships like this one — they force my mind to adapt to another party’s imperatives. It is an exercise I rarely get to experience when creating for myself, as I design the movement and the case simultaneously.” The Octo Finissimo, with its specific aesthetic and technical mastery, made the challenge even more compelling. Stigliani, the conductor of aesthetics at Bulgari adds: “The result merges two universes while keeping both instantly recognizable. The rigorous geometry of the Octo Finissimo case enhances the construction of independent dials, characteristic of Vianney Halter; the ultra-thin movement integrates new functions while preserving the distinctive qualities that have earned its reputation among watch enthusiasts.”
The fruit of their labor? The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Dual Time x Vianney Halter, a watch that sacrifices nothing of one identity for the other — a complicated achievement underpinned by masterful technical details. Vianney Halter’s signature asserts itself with immediate authority: four opaline white dials — the watchmaker’s emblematic color — along with his characteristically shaped hands in blue, a red arrow seconds hand, and a rotor engraved with Vianney Halter’s signature. The result is a precious balance that supports this unexpected and refreshing artistic collaboration.
Beyond shapes and colors lie immense technical challenges. The 40.5mm case in itself is composed of more than 50 components, each engineered to further elevate the refinement and complexity of what has already been a multiple-record-breaking achievement in watch design and habillage. Realized through Bulgari’s integrated expertise, from the precision-engineered flatness of its components to the ingenuity of its integrated crown guards, every detail has been conceived to unite aesthetics with technical prowess, ensuring water resistance without compromising design refinement.
Manufactured in-house across the brand’s workshops in Saignelégier and Le Sentier, Switzerland, this latest Bulgari collaboration is powered by the BVL 138 calibre, enriched with specific modules developed for this collaboration to integrate GMT, Date, and Day/Night functions. The work then turned toward designing and making these singular dials where both artistic and technical challenges had to be overcome, requiring opaline of perfect homogeneity across four distinct elements while integrating different techniques. Miniaturizing components necessitated the creation of bespoke and entirely dedicated manufacturing tools — another feat that testifies to the level of rigor Bulgari has imposed upon itself to realize Vianney Halter’s vision.
Despite this unprecedented complexity, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Dual Time x Vianney Halter watch measures 40.5mm wide and 9.70mm thick. The movement within is the new BVF 200 calibre that is just 5.49mm thick while incorporating a self-winding system with a micro-rotor, 60 hours of autonomy, and a GMT, Date, and day-and-night indications beyond the hours and minutes that are displayed on a subdial at what would normally be the 2 o’clock position. The movement is lavishly decorated with vertical Côtes de Genève striping, brushing, and perlage, while the platinum micro-rotor is colored in rose gold on the rose gold-cased variant.
This collaboration comes in two highly exclusive versions, both strictly limited. The first is presented in brushed titanium across its case and bracelet, limited to 30 pieces. The second is in satin sandblasted and polished pink gold, bringing a luminous warmth that highlights the opaline dials and contrasts the brown alligator bracelet. This piece is limited to 15 pieces and it represents the most precious interpretation of this singular union.
