Alicia Vikander went all in on romantic ruffles while promoting The Echo Chamber at the Venice Film Festival this weekend. Her gown’s dreamy draping, along with her special plus-one—husband Michael Fassbender—set a tender tone befitting the upcoming romantic drama.
On September 6, the Oscar-winning Swedish actress made a rare red carpet appearance with Fassbender in a custom Louis Vuitton gown by Nicolas Ghesquière. The pastel blue number cascaded into a sea of floor-trailing ruffles which appeared to float as she walked. The layers of light-as-air silk created a petal-like effect, finished with an oversized sash bow tied around her waist. On top, the structured bustier offered a clean juxtaposition, with a straight-across neckline that grounded the look in grown-up elegance. She emphasized the cool tones with diamond accessories and matching blue Louis Vuitton heels.

Fassbender looked similarly refined in a double-breasted Berluti tuxedo with a bow tie and dark sunglasses. The couple, who have been married since 2017, are known for being private, and their red-carpet appearances together are few and far between. Their last official outing took place at the Cannes Film Festival in May, when they walked the red carpet for Hope, a violent thriller starring both actors. The Echo Chamber, however, stars Vikander sans Fassbender, and takes a more melodramatic, slow-burning tone.
For the occasion, Vikander’s Louis Vuitton gown perfectly encapsulates her flair for timeless femininity. The star is a Louis Vuitton ambassador and a longtime collaborator with Ghesquière, embracing the designer’s structural silhouettes, texture play, and subtle historical references in her red carpet appearances.

Earlier in the day, she pre-gamed the look with a blushy pink sheer mini, surprisingly not from Louis Vuitton but instead from Chloé’s resort 2027 collection. With a skirt adorned in polka dots and a billowing sheer top, the design put a daytime twist on her affinity for unique draping and sheer layers. But when she changed into the Louis Vuitton frock, she put a bow on her singular red-carpet romanticism. Literally.
