Chaos unfolded on the Seine river in Juvisy-sur-Orge, near Paris, when a passenger bus careered off the road and plunged into the water all while taking a car with it<\/p>\n

An incredible picture captures the moment a massive passenger bus sits eerily submerged at the bottom of the river after swallowing what was seconds before a routine morning commute.<\/p>\n

On Thursday morning around 9:30am, the tranquil riverbanks of the Seine river in Juvisy-sur-Orge, on the outskirts of Paris, were transformed into a site of absolute chaos.<\/a> A bus operating on line 4116 careened off the road and plunged directly into the river<\/a>, but it didn’t go down alone.<\/p>\n

In its violent descent, the heavy vehicle smashed into a parked empty car, dragging the smaller vehicle into the depths along with it. According to preliminary information, <\/a>the catastrophe appears to have been triggered by a nightmare mistake.<\/p>\n

The driver, reportedly a trainee, is believed to have made a fatal handling error while behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

The bus had just pulled away from Juvisy station when, instead of following the curve of the road, it surged straight ahead. The vehicle hurtled toward the Quai Jean-Pierre Timbaud at the foot of the French First Army Bridge before striking the parked car and launching into the water.<\/p>\n

Three other people were trapped on board as the bus hit the water – the driver’s instructor and two terrified passengers.<\/p>\n

As the bus settled into the river, witnesses on the bank didn’t hesitate. Passers-by were the first to rush to the aid of the four people on board, helping them escape the sinking wreckage before emergency services arrived.<\/p>\n

By late morning a helicopter was circling the crash site to ensure no one else was trapped beneath the waves, while divers and police cordoned off the riverbank. Miraculously, despite the violence of the plunge, no casualties have been reported.<\/p>\n

The Mayor of Juvisy, Lamia Bensarsa Reda, arrived at the scene. Surveying the wreckage of the bus and car from the bridge, she spoke of her shock at the “unbelievable” sight.<\/p>\n

“It’s the first time I’ve seen anything like this,” the Mayor said. “I think I’ve just experienced the worst day of my life. Luckily, there were no casualties thanks to the quick response of the police and emergency services.”<\/p>\n

She confirmed that municipal officers are working around the clock to manage the “very congested” traffic currently choking the riverbanks.<\/p>\n

The fallout from the crash has sparked a travel nightmare across the region. Transport authorities have confirmed that lines 4114, 4116, 4121, 4117, and 4118 are all diverted in both directions, with Juvisy station completely cut off until further notice.<\/p>\n

\u00cele-de-France Mobilit\u00e9s has issued a press release demanding that the operator, Keolis, launch an immediate internal investigation.
