The French Foreign Ministry has clarified that President Emmanuel Macron\u2019s pledge to stand by Greece<\/a> in case of a threat was not aimed at any specific country, dismissing interpretations that it targeted T\u00fcrkiye<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the ministry\u2019s weekly press briefing, Spokesperson Pascal Confavreux responded to journalists\u2019 questions regarding Macron\u2019s statement during his visit to Athens last week, where he said, \u201cIf your sovereignty is threatened, we will stand by your side.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president\u2019s remarks were made in response to a question concerning a potential attack on a European country. The answer applies equally to all our allies and partners. It does not target any particular country,\u201d Confavreux said.<\/p>\n

He added that France<\/a> had issued a similar response regarding missiles launched from Iran that were directed toward Turkish airspace.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe support the ongoing dialogue between T\u00fcrkiye and Greece,\u201d Confavreux also noted, emphasizing France\u2019s commitment to enhancing and strengthening bilateral dialogue with T\u00fcrkiye.<\/p>\n
