Two women \u200bdied after a boat carrying about 80 migrants trying to cross to Britain \u2060from France capsized near Calais, the local French administration said on Sunday.<\/p>\n
“We regret to say that we \u2060found two people, \u200btwo \u2060women, who had died,” said Christophe Marx, an official \u2060for the Pas-de-Calais administration, adding \u200bthat \u2060authorities had rescued the \u200cothers.<\/p>\n
The deaths highlight the difficulties faced by Britain and France over \u200ctackling small boats \u200ctransporting migrants illegally across the English Channel.<\/p>\n
Last month, Britain said it would pay France up to \u00a3660 million under a three-year \u200bborder security deal to \u200ctry to clamp \u2060down on illegal migrant \u2060crossings of the Channel, with part of \u200cthe \u200bfunding contingent on \u200cresults.<\/p>\n
