It will fund new logistics sites, develop cloud and AI services and strengthen the company\u2019s existing network, Amazon said in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Four new distribution centres are planned across northern, eastern and central France. Job creation will begin in 2026 with the opening of the first three sites.<\/p>\n<p>New sites and jobs<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The first wave will create 1,000 permanent jobs in Illiers-Combray, south-west of <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rfi.fr\/en\/tag\/paris-1\/\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Paris;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Paris<\/a>, another 1,000 in the northern city of Beauvais and 3,000 near <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rfi.fr\/en\/tag\/lyon\/\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Lyon;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Lyon<\/a> in eastern France.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A fourth distribution centre is due to open near the German border in Ensisheim, in eastern France, at the end of 2027, creating another 2,000 permanent jobs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">More than \u20ac30 billion euros has already been invested in France since 2010.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The investment would bring \u201cfaster deliveries, a wider choice and low prices accessible across France, as well as a reduced environmental footprint thanks to a local logistics network\u201d, Amazon France chief executive Jean-Baptiste Thomas said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rfi.fr\/en\/france\/20240124-amazon-s-french-warehouses-fined-\u20ac32-million-over-employee-surveillance\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Amazon&#039;s French warehouses fined \u20ac32m over employee surveillance;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Amazon&#8217;s French warehouses fined \u20ac32m over employee surveillance<\/a><\/p>\n<p>France expansion<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Amazon said the investment would also directly benefit local areas and French businesses using Amazon\u2019s marketplace, technology, cloud and AI services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cMore than 7,000 permanent jobs will be created, and French companies that rely on our marketplace, our technologies and our cloud and AI solutions to grow will also benefit directly,\u201d Thomas added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Amazon was founded in 1994 and entered the French market in 2000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">France was the third country outside the <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rfi.fr\/en\/tag\/united-states\/\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:United States;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">United States<\/a> where Amazon launched operations, after <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rfi.fr\/en\/tag\/germany\/\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Germany;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Germany<\/a> and the <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rfi.fr\/en\/tag\/united-kingdom\/\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:United Kingdom;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">United Kingdom<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The company has previously <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/amazon-agrees-worker-safety-measures-settle-us-probe-2024-12-19\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:faced criticism;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">faced criticism<\/a> in Europe over warehouse working conditions and anti-union practices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">More than 25,000 people now work for Amazon in France on permanent contracts across more than 35 sites, including logistics centres and offices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">(with newswires)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The investment is Amazon\u2019s biggest in France so far.
