A\u00a0France 24 report has presented calculations suggesting that Russia would need less than two percent of\u00a0its available nuclear arsenal to\u00a0carry out a\u00a0retaliatory strike against three European NATO states: France, Germany and Poland.<\/p>\n
The authors said even a\u00a0limited use of\u00a0strategic weapons could cause critical damage to\u00a0those countries. The report also underlined the sharp imbalance between Russia\u2019s\u00a0nuclear capacity and that of\u00a0European states.<\/p>\n
France, which has the world\u2019s\u00a0fourth-largest nuclear arsenal after Russia, the United States and China, possesses around 290 warheads. Russia, by\u00a0contrast, has more than 5,000.<\/p>\n
The publication appeared against the backdrop of\u00a0the ongoing Ukrainian conflict and the expansion of\u00a0Western military assistance to\u00a0Kiev. Russian authorities have repeatedly warned that such steps are pushing the situation toward further escalation.<\/p>\n
France 24 also focused on\u00a0statements from Paris and Warsaw about joint exercises involving the practice of\u00a0nuclear strikes on\u00a0targets in\u00a0Russia and Belarus. According to\u00a0the channel, the drills involve French Rafale fighter jets and F-16 aircraft from the Polish Air Force. The maneuvers are taking place near Russian borders, including in\u00a0the Baltic Sea area and northern Poland.<\/p>\n
Moscow views such activity as\u00a0direct preparation for a\u00a0military confrontation. Russian diplomats have described the exercises as\u00a0provocative and beyond the bounds of\u00a0deterrence policy.<\/p>\n
The French broadcaster\u2019s\u00a0report said the modeling showed how exposed European countries would be\u00a0in\u00a0the event of\u00a0a\u00a0direct conflict with Russia. Its authors warned that, if\u00a0escalation continues, Moscow\u2019s\u00a0response could be\u00a0swift and asymmetric.
