The 57-year-old has established his final list before stepping down as Les Bleus’ boss once France’s 2026 World Cup run ends.

Deschamps has gone with an unsurprising blend of world-class talent and experience as he looks to make it a three-peat of World Cup finals, and go one step further than 2022, when they lost to Lionel Messi’s Argentina on penalties.

One of the most awaited decisions from Deschamps revolved around the identity of France’s third-choice goalkeeper, considering that PSG’s Lucas Chevalier was out of the equation after sustaining a thigh injury. Deschamps eventually went with 21-year-old Robin Risser. The Lens goalkeeper has received his maiden Les Bleus call-up, just in time for the World Cup.

At the opposite end of the pitch, where Deschamps is spoilt for choice, Jean-Philippe Mateta has earned a recall. The Crystal Palace centre-forward seems to have benefited the most of Hugo Ekitiké’s serious Achilles injury. Tottenham Hotspur’s Randal Kolo Muani has been left out, such as Ligue 1’s top scorer, Estéban Lepaul.

Before embarking to America, France will play two friendly international games. They will host Ivory Coast at Nantes on Thursday, June 4; and then Northern Ireland at Lille on Monday, June 8. France’s World Cup fixtures in Group I will see them lock horns with Sénégal (June 16), Iraq (June 22) and Norway (June 26).

Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the 2026 World Cup:

Goalkeepers: Mike Maignan (Milan), Robin Risser (Lens), Brice Samba (Rennes)

Defenders: Lucas Digne (Aston Villa), Malo Gusto (Chelsea), L.
