Renault&#8217;s party <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/macron-officially-proposes-emmanuel-moulin-as-next-bank-of-france-governor\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sees Moulin<\/a> as one of the key architects of an economic policy they say has hobbled France with trillions of euros worth of debt.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-2262671406-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8004471\"  \/>French President Emmanuel Macron&#8217;s move appears less controversial in Frankfurt and Brussels. | Magali Cohen\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>By themselves, however, the Greens, France Unbowed and the National Rally don&#8217;t have enough votes to stop Moulin. The secret nature of the vote could play in their favor, as there&#8217;s nothing stopping lawmakers from disobeying party voting instructions. But a successful veto requires the support of three-fifths of the members of both committees \u2014\u00a0a relatively high bar.<\/p>\n<p>The Socialist Party, whose members met with Moulin Wednesday behind closed doors, has not yet announced a position. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are torn between the objective qualifications of Mr. Moulin, who ticks all the boxes, and the fact that this is the first time someone so close to a head of state has so quickly secured a strategic position within the Bank of France,\u201d a Socialist senator said earlier last week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"As governor, Moulin would have a seat on the ECB\u2019s main decision-making board, the governing council.
