It added that it was \u201cclosely monitoring the situation\u201d and would adapt its operations in compliance with applicable regulations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">A Hapag-Lloyd spokesman said the German company was similarly suspending Cuban orders &#8220;due to compliance risks associated with the US president\u2019s executive order of May 1.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The Cuban government did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The temporary suspension of new orders by two of the world\u2019s largest shipping companies could jeopardize as much as 60% of Cuba&#8217;s shipping traffic by volume, two sources with direct knowledge of the situation said, a major blow to a country already nearing collapse amid a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-890208\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US<\/a> oil blockade that has throttled the island of fuel.<\/p>\n<p>Shipping of goods from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/iran-news\/article-896482\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">China<\/a> would be most impacted by the order, the sources said.
