{"id":22251,"date":"2026-05-23T23:02:45","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T23:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/22251\/"},"modified":"2026-05-23T23:02:45","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T23:02:45","slug":"from-punk-style-to-hermes-a-students-co-op-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/22251\/","title":{"rendered":"From Punk Style to Herm\u00e8s: A Student\u2019s Co-op Story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Northeastern University student Haylen Wehr describes her creative vision for fashion as \u201cavant-garde\u201d and inspired by the punk and gothic cultures and communities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, Wehr \u2014 who created her own clothing brand while in high school, and has been designing dresses since she was a child \u2014 was a little surprised when she toured the Paris headquarters of Herm\u00e8s and found that she shared \u201ca lot of brand DNA\u201d with the luxury stalwart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOriginally I\u2019d seen it just like everyone else sees it \u2014 as something very \u2018up here in the clouds,\u2019 unattainable, ultra luxury, ultra exclusive and all of that stuff,\u201d says Wehr, a fourth-year student studying international business with a concentration in social innovation and entrepreneurship as well as a minor in global fashion studies and Spanish. She is also fashion director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theavenuemag.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Avenue<\/a> fashion magazine at Northeastern.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the Herm\u00e8s tour taught Wehr that the exclusivity and luxury of the brand stemmed from its commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability, an egalitarian corporate structure and employees, not just marketing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was really what I had been learning about in all of my social entrepreneurship classes,\u201d Wehr says. \u201cThat tour completely transformed my perceptions of what Herm\u00e8s was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"533\" width=\"800\" data-id=\"279207\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/100125_MM_Haylen_Wehr_015.jpg\" alt=\"Haylen Wehr in a polka dots dress standing against a red brick wall.\" class=\"wp-image-279207\"  \/>10\/01\/25 \u2013 BOSTON, MA \u2013 Haylen Wehr, who studies international business,  poses for a portrait on Oct. 1, 2025. Photos by Matthew Modoono\/Northeastern University<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wanting to learn more, Wehr garnered a co-op with Herm\u00e8s, working in the New York offices of the 188-year-old family-owned business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI couldn\u2019t imagine a better learning environment for fostering not only professional growth but personal growth,\u201d Wehr says. \u201cIt suited my personal goals really well in terms of collaborative and cross-functional learning between teams and a really beautiful attention to the product itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wehr spent six months on the media advertising team at Herm\u00e8s, working with long-term advertising partners to coordinate and track ad campaigns and do market research for upcoming campaigns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s largely traditional media, which is really awesome because they build these really long-standing partnerships with publications,\u201d Wehr says, calling it a \u201csuper sustainable\u201d business practice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, Herm\u00e8s asked her to stay on for an additional two months and make a \u201cbig jump,\u201d in Wehr\u2019s words, to the window display logistics team. The team\u2019s first intern, Wehr worked with designers and artists to bring the artist\u2019s vision from a two-dimensional drawing to a three-dimensional display.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEssentially, what I did in that role was completely revolving around styling: How are we going to showcase this merchandise in this window to make it really stand out? What are we going to choose? How are we going to convey this message that we want to convey visually?\u201d Wehr says. \u201cBringing concepts to visual stories is so relevant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The co-op culminated in an intern meeting with the company\u2019s North America CEO for coffee and (of course, Herm\u00e8s being a French brand) croissants as well as a workshop where Wehr led colleagues as they built out their own window display.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe freedom to be so creative with my presentation was just a testament to how much the company fosters personal development and creativity,\u201d Wehr says. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to imagine something better than that in a working environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Hermes spokesperson says students like Haylen are \u201cessential\u201d to the company as it evolves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c(Haylen\u2019s) driven, genuinely excited about the industry, and offers a fresh perspective that keeps us innovative and connected to the next generation of fashion consumers and creators,\u201d Camille Mohsenin says in an email.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And while her personal style may favor the edgy, Wehr did leave the co-op with more than just an appreciation for Herm\u00e8s as a brand and a workplace.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYes, they were very generous,\u201d she says, laughing. \u201cI was lucky enough to get my hands on a few silk scarves.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Northeastern University student Haylen Wehr describes her creative vision for fashion as \u201cavant-garde\u201d and inspired by the punk&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":22252,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[12919],"tags":[16466,11913,10346,4953,3459],"class_list":["post-22251","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-hermes","tag-co-op","tag-fashion-industry","tag-global-business","tag-hermes","tag-students"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22251","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=22251"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22251\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/22252"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=22251"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=22251"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=22251"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
