The French president said the comments were \u201cneither elegant nor up to standard,\u201d after Trump was seen imitating a French accent and making remarks about Macron and his wife during the meeting. \n<\/p>\n
According to reports, Trump made the comments while criticizing NATO allies for not joining the war against Iran. He also questioned NATO\u2019s reliability and suggested the alliance might not defend the United States in a major conflict. \n<\/p>\n
In France, politicians across the political spectrum reacted with anger. Ya\u00ebl Braun-Pivet, president of France\u2019s lower house of parliament, said the remarks were inappropriate and came at a time when global leaders should be focused on serious international issues. \n<\/p>\n
Even Manuel Bompard, a leading figure in the left-wing France Unbowed party, defended Macron, calling Trump\u2019s comments \u201cabsolutely unacceptable.\u201d \n<\/p>\n
French media also criticized the remarks, with Le Figaro describing them as another controversial outburst from the U.S. president. \n<\/p>\n
