Ukraine<\/a> on Friday faced nearly 500 Russian missile and drone attacks that killed at least six people, officials said, the latest in an increasing number of daytime strikes by Moscow<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted on the Telegram app Friday, the Ukrainian air \u200bforce \u200csaid Russia<\/a> \u200blaunched \u200b542 drones and 37 missiles \u200bsince \u200clast \u2060night \u200ctargeting Ukraine’s critical infrastructure \u2060facilities. Air defence \u200cunits shot \u200bdown 515 drones and 26 \u200bmissiles, the air \u200bforce \u200badded.<\/p>\n

The bombardment was the second \u200ctime in a week that Russia has followed a overnight drone barrage with \u2060heavy daytime attacks<\/a>, a new tactic as Moscow probes ways to penetrate Ukraine’s air defences.<\/p>\n

“The Kyiv region is once again under a massive enemy missile and drone attack,”\u00a0Mykola Kalashnyk, the regional governor, said.<\/p>\n

“We can see that the enemy is \u200busing new routes, new drones which they are constantly \u200cmodernising, and new tactics,” air force spokesman Yurii Ihnat said on state television.<\/p>\n

Large-scale Russian bombardments cause disruption across Ukraine as many \u200bgovernment institutions, public transport services and businesses close during the attacks, which can last many hours.<\/p>\n

“The enemy is \u200bexerting (pressure) on our population, paralysing the work of certain public institutions, as well as learning institutions,” Ihnat said.<\/p>\n

In the eastern region of Kharkiv, one person was killed and 25 others injured by missile, bomb and drone \u2060attacks over the past 24 hours, governor Oleh Synehubov said on social media.<\/p>\n

That included four \u2060ballisitic missiles \u200bthat struck the regional capital, also called Kharkiv, overnight. Authorities only reported one injury from that strike.<\/p>\n

Poland scrambles military jets due to Russian strikes on Ukraine <\/p>\n

Poland<\/a> on Friday said it scrambled \u200bfighter jets due to Russian air \u200bstrikes \u200con \u2060Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“Duty fighter jets have \u200cbeen scrambled, \u200band ground-based air defence systems as well \u200bas radar \u200breconnaissance \u200bhave reached a state \u200bof maximum readiness,” said the Operational Command of the \u2060Polish Armed Forces on X.<\/p>\n

No\u00a0violations of Polish airspace \u2060were recorded and military \u200baviation operations\u00a0linked to Russian strikes \u200bon \u200cUkraine ended later Friday, said the Operational Command \u200bof the \u200cPolish Armed Forces.<\/p>\n

“Activated ground-based air \u200bdefense and radar reconnaissance systems have returned to \u200bstandard operational \u200bactivities,” the army \u200bwrote on X. “We \u200binform that no violation of the airspace \u2060of the Republic of \u2060Poland \u200bwas observed.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile\u00a0Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky<\/a> has invited US negotiators to Kyiv to relaunch three-way talks with Russia, according to comments released Friday.<\/p>\n

“I invited the American negotiating delegation to Kyiv. The delegation will do everything possible in the current conditions\u00a0\u2013 during the war with Iran<\/a> \u2013 to come to Kyiv,” Zelensky told journalists on Thursday.<\/p>\n
