For the past several years, many enthusiasts and industry analysts have questioned whether the historic Lancia brand still had a meaningful future inside Stellantis. With Stellantis continuing to juggle 14 legacy brands across multiple global markets, there has been plenty of speculation about which brands would ultimately survive long term. Today, Lancia delivered a strong response to those concerns by officially pulling the covers off its all-new Gamma crossover<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new Gamma becomes only the second vehicle in Lancia\u2019s modern lineup, joining the Ypsilon hatchback. While the Ypsilon focused heavily on the city car market, the Gamma pushes the brand into one of Europe\u2019s most competitive segments with a sleek crossover fastback design.<\/p>\n

Unlike several upcoming compact Stellantis crossovers expected to migrate to the new STLA One architecture<\/a> later this decade, the Gamma rides on the already familiar STLA Medium platform<\/a>. That same platform underpins several important future Stellantis products, including the European-market Jeep\u00ae Compass (J4U)<\/a>. In fact, the Gamma will share much of its engineering and production strategy with the new Compass.<\/p>\n

Production of the Gamma will take place at Stellantis\u2019 Melfi Assembly Plant<\/a> in southern Italy. The facility is already one of Stellantis\u2019 most advanced European manufacturing plants and is becoming increasingly important to the company\u2019s future electrified vehicle strategy.<\/p>\n

Lancia says the first Gamma prototypes are already undergoing road testing as the program enters its final validation stages ahead of launch. Order books are expected to open shortly after summer.<\/p>\n

The Gamma measures 183.8 inches (4,670 mm) long, 74.4 inches (1,890 mm) wide, and 65.3 inches (1,660 mm) tall, giving it a footprint very similar to many midsize crossover coupes currently sold around the world. The vehicle\u2019s overall styling leans heavily into a premium European fastback appearance with a sloping rear roofline, narrow lighting signatures, and smooth body surfacing.<\/p>\n

Lancia also confirmed the Gamma will feature a broad range of electrified powertrains. Entry-level models will use a 145 horsepower hybrid setup capable of delivering more than 621 miles (1,000 kilometers) of range.<\/p>\n

The fully electric lineup will stretch across several outputs, beginning with a 230 horsepower model offering more than 335 miles (540 kilometers) of range. Additional variants include a 245 horsepower version capable of more than 460 miles (740 kilometers) of range, while the flagship AWD model will deliver 375 horsepower with up to 419 miles (675 kilometers) of range.<\/p>\n

While Lancia remains a Europe-focused brand, the new Gamma demonstrates that Stellantis is still willing to invest in its smaller legacy nameplates. The reveal also comes at a time when many enthusiasts and industry analysts have questioned CEO Antonio Filosa<\/a> and the company\u2019s new FaSTLAne 2030 strategic plan<\/a>, which directs 70% of Stellantis\u2019 global brand and product investments toward four core \u201cfirst launcher\u201d brands: Fiat, Jeep\u00ae, Ram, and Peugeot.<\/p>\n

Under the new structure, the company\u2019s remaining ten brands will share the final 30% of investment resources. Because Lancia currently operates only in select European markets, the brand has now been classified internally as a niche brand and will fall under Fiat brand management moving forward.<\/p>\n

For a company facing constant questions about brand overlap, investment priorities, and long-term direction, the Gamma could be exactly the kind of product Lancia needs to prove it still has a meaningful place within the Stellantis portfolio.<\/p>\n
