{"id":25382,"date":"2026-05-27T11:06:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T11:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/25382\/"},"modified":"2026-05-27T11:06:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T11:06:16","slug":"sou-fujimoto-designs-dior-shinsaibashi-to-evoke-flowing-drapery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/25382\/","title":{"rendered":"Sou Fujimoto designs Dior Shinsaibashi to evoke &#8220;flowing drapery&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Architect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/sou-fujimoto\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sou Fujimoto<\/a> has unveiled a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/dior\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dior<\/a> store in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/osaka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Osaka<\/a>, Japan, featuring an undulating facade that envelops an interior by architect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/peter-marino\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Marino<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Located in Osaka&#8217;s central Shinsaibashi area, the four-storey House of Dior was designed as a nod to the fashion brand&#8217;s history while celebrating its ties to Japan.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2331181 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/sou-fujimoto-dior-shinsaibashi_dezeen_2364_col_7-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior of House of Dior Shinsaibashi\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>The Shinsaibashi store has an undulating facade designed by Sou Fujimoto<\/p>\n<p>The brand described the store as &#8220;a homage to the virtuosity of haute couture&#8221; that &#8220;evokes the flowing drapery and layered fabrics of the dresses created by Christian Dior&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Its facade, which resembles Japanese washi paper, appears to lift above the doors to grant entry. At the top of the building \u2013 the rest of which has kept its existing tiled facade \u2013 sits a star, the symbol of the House of Dior.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2331177 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/sou-fujimoto-dior-shinsaibashi_dezeen_2364_col_3-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Dior store with metal chairs\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>It features interiors by Peter Marino<\/p>\n<p>While the exterior was kept relatively unadorned, aside from the ribbed, undulating facade, the interior by Marino features more traditional luxury Dior details, such as Versailles parquet.<\/p>\n<p>At the centre of the store is a sculptural staircase that follows the shape of the facade and circles around an abstract metal artwork by artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaycock.com\/abouttheartist\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alice Aycock<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2331176 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/sou-fujimoto-dior-shinsaibashi_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Undulating staircase with artwork\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>A metal artwork by Alice Aycock is at the centre of a wavy staircase<\/p>\n<p>The interior also references the Japanese tradition of flower arrangement, ikebana, with a number of floral designs by flora artist <a href=\"https:\/\/azumamakoto.com\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Azuma Makoto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The ground floor of the store focuses on women&#8217;s wear, accessories, fragrances and jewellery.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/19\/dior-golden-bamboo-pavilion-tokyo-version-hq\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/dior-bamboo-pavilion_dezeen_2364_col_sq1-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Dior Bamboo Pavilion in Daikanyama\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p> Dior unveils golden bamboo version of Paris HQ\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here, visitors can rest on artist Claude Lalanne&#8217;s leaf-shaped Gingko bench, crowned with pale flowers, while a green wall adds a touch of nature.<\/p>\n<p>The first floor holds ready-to-wear collections by Dior&#8217;s creative director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/jonathan-anderson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathan Anderson<\/a>, as well as bags.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2331182 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/sou-fujimoto-dior-shinsaibashi_dezeen_2364_col_8-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Gingko bench with pink flowers\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Claude Lalanne&#8217;s Gingko bench offers seating on the ground floor<\/p>\n<p>On the second floor, navy blue armchairs in patchwork denim fabrics add a playful note to the menswear designs that surround them.<\/p>\n<p>The Monsieur Dior restaurant sits on the top floor, which was designed by Marino as &#8220;a tribute to gardens&#8221;.
