Thales Canada has been awarded a contract by Lockheed Martin Canada to supply the S2087, a member of the low\u2011frequency towed array\u00a0sonars CAPTAS family, for the Royal Canadian Navy\u2019s future River\u2011class destroyers.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Under Canada\u2019s new Build\u2013Partner\u2013Buy framework, the Government of Canada is strengthening cooperation with the UUK and other nations to ensure the RCN possesses anti\u2011submarine warfare (ASW) sensing capabilities.<\/p>\n

Thales plans to work closely with Canadian industry partners to support its sonar systems throughout their full lifecycle, ensuring that maintenance and upgrade capabilities remain firmly under Canada\u2019s sovereign control. <\/p>\n

Building on this foundation, the delivery of the S2087 long\u2011range, low\u2011frequency towed array sonar will provide a decisive enhancement to the undersea domain dominance of Canada\u2019s next\u2011generation combat fleet, according to Thales. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe S2087 adds a critical layer of capability to the River\u2011class destroyers, ensuring Canada\u2019s surface combatants are equipped to operate effectively in contested maritime environments,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Ian Krepps, CEO, Thales Canada. <\/p>\n

The S2087 was originally developed in close partnership with the British, French, and Italian navies. \u00a0has been chosen by\u00a020 navies around the world, and is currently deployed by the Royal Navy and selected for Australia\u2019s Hunter\u2011class frigates.<\/p>\n

The River\u2011class destroyers will form the backbone of the RCN, replacing the Halifax\u2011class frigates and Iroquois\u2011class destroyers.<\/p>\n
