In La Cantera alone, Neiman Marcus, Sephora, and Nordstrom sell Jo Malone fragrances. However, the standalone boutique will presumably allow the brand to stock a wider selection from its home, bath and body, and men\u2019s lines.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike many perfumiers, founder Jo Malone <a data-ylk=\"slk:never had formal training;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/10\/03\/fashion\/perfume-jo-malone.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">never had formal training<\/a>. In fact, very little in her life set her up for success. She grew up in a low-income council house, battled severe dyslexia, and left school at 13 to care for her ailing mother.<\/p>\n<p>Still, she was exposed to fragrance mixing at an early age, helping her mother create creams for a skincare clinic. Although she couldn\u2019t read the labels, Malone began <a data-ylk=\"slk:memorizing the scents;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/carminegallo\/2017\/07\/31\/a-kitchen-entrepreneur-turned-millionaire-offers-1-secret-to-success\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">memorizing the scents<\/a> by her nose.<\/p>\n<p>She founded her namesake brand in 1990, which became an international phenomenon thanks to a bump on The Oprah Winfrey Show. In 1999, Malone sold the company to Est\u00e9e Lauder Companies, but has since gotten back into the biz with <a data-ylk=\"slk:Jo Loves;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/us.joloves.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Jo Loves<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The new La Cantera Jo Malone is part of a boom in individual scent shops, one of the few bright spots in an otherwise waning retail landscape. According to fashion industry site <a data-ylk=\"slk:Glossy;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.glossy.co\/beauty\/from-salt-lake-city-to-atlanta-why-niche-perfume-stores-are-popping-up-across-the-country\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Glossy<\/a>, customers are increasingly opting for personal scents over designer blockbusters. And, of course, testing perfumes cannot be done online.<\/p>\n<p>According to a new Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, construction on the Jo Malone boutique is expected to wrap up in January 2027.
