Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 17,277 model-year 2020 to 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (RU) minivans due to a potential fire risk involving the vehicle\u2019s high-voltage battery pack. According to the recall, an internal battery failure could lead to a fire, even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is turned off.<\/p>\n

Documents filed by Stellantis with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicate that the automaker estimates approximately 1% of the recalled vehicles may contain the defect. And there is also no indication or warning leading up to thermal runaway.<\/p>\n

Stellantis is asking owners to not to charge their vehicles, and to park outside and away from structures, until their vehicle is repaired.<\/p>\n

The recall affect Pacifica plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)<\/a> built between August 5, 2020, and May 2, 2022. According to Stellantis, the affected vehicles were equipped with high-voltage battery packs containing cells produced on an alternative manufacturing line operated by LG Energy Solution (LGES)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In certain cases, these battery cells may experience an internal failure that could lead to thermal runaway, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Stellantis identified the affected population using supplier and vehicle production records. Pacifica Hybrid models built outside of the identified production period, vehicles equipped with battery cells from LGES\u2019s primary assembly line, and non-hybrid Pacifica models are not included in the recall.<\/p>\n

On January 17, 2024, NHTSA opened a Recall Query into 2017-2018MY RU PHEV vehicles with a thermal event originating at or near the HV battery.
\nOn May 3, 2024, FCA US LLC (\u201cFCA US\u201d) provided a full response to the inquiry.
\nOn March 27, 2026, NHTSA issued an expanded Recall Query into 2017 \u2013 2026MY RU PHEV vehicles with a thermal event originating at or near the HV battery.
\nOn April 30, 2026, the FCA US Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (\u201cTSRC\u201d) organization opened an investigation into some 2020-2022MY Chrysler Pacifica PHEVs experiencing fires originating from the HV battery.
\nOn May 1, 2026, FCA US provided a full response to the expanded inquiry.
\nSince August of 2023, FCA US has received a total of 4 reports of vehicles which have had fires originating from the HV battery. These incidents occur at a very low frequency, and all have cells produced on an alternative assembly line at LGES with limited production. FCA US has attempted to repurchase these vehicles and has only received 1 vehicle for further analysis. The battery pack was analyzed by LGES, and the cause of the fire is undetermined. FCA US and LGES have analyzed warranty returns, manufacturing history, and assembly line processes at LGES and have not discovered any issues. Root cause investigation continues.
\nAs of May 15, 2026, FCA US is aware of 3 customer assistance records, 0 warranty claims, 4 field reports, and no other service records potentially relating to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from August 30, 2023, to January 16, 2026.
\nAs of May 15, 2026, FCA US is not aware of any accidents or injuries potentially related to this issue for all markets.
\nOn May 28, 2026, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, that a safety defect exists in certain vehicles.<\/p>\n

FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to update the High-Voltage Battery Pack Control Module (BPCM) with revised software designed to monitor battery pack assembly operational status for conditions that could lead to a fire in the battery pack assembly. In addition, FCA US will inspect and, if necessary, replace the battery pack assembly.<\/p>\n

FCA US will also provide a Warranty Extension for all impacted customers experiencing messaging related to the defect that requires battery replacement. The Warranty Extension terms are unlimited years and unlimited mileage.<\/p>\n

Dealers will perform the BPCM software update, inspect the battery pack assembly, and replace it if necessary. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on June 23, 2026.<\/p>\n
