Sometime around the turn of the century, Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor<\/a> availed herself of a\u00a0red, white, and black floral-embellished Fendi<\/a> Baguette Bag. Yesterday, that Baguette sold for $21,590 at Christie\u2019s, setting a new auction record for the Baguette. The low estimate on Taylor\u2019s bag was $3,000, making for an above-sevenfold increase. Provenance is a rare spice, and the world cannot get enough of Taylor or the Fendi Baguette.<\/p>\n

There is no doubt that the Baguette is back, and sprinting to a moment on par with its heyday. The brand is aware and ready to meet desire. At this year\u2019s Milan Design Week<\/a>, Fendi threw a 26424 Re-Edition Presentation event to celebrate a re-release of the iconic bag.<\/p>\n

Taylor\u2019s Fendi handbag may have set the new auction high-water mark for the Baguette, but it is far from being the most expensive<\/a> bag ever sold at auction. That honor goes to Jane Birkin\u2019s original<\/a> black leather prototype Herm\u00e8s Birkin<\/a> bag, which sold for an astonishing $10.1 million last year.<\/p>\n

Other highlights of the luxury handbag sale included a white crocodile Herm\u00e8s<\/a> Birkin 30, which sold for $120,650, and $76,200 for\u00a0a chocolate-colored Evergrain Birkin 35.<\/p>\n
