Late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld<\/a> was constantly in motion and always in need of change. The famed Chanel and Fendi creative director once even said, \u201cThe most beautiful house is always the next one.\u201d And he certainly lived like it, as evidenced in the 2024 book, Karl Lagerfeld: A Life in Houses,<\/a> which chronicled 13 of the extraordinary residences he called home. One of them, an 18th-century manor outside Paris, just hit the market for roughly $3.1 million<\/a> (\u20ac2.7 million).<\/p>\n

Dubbed Manoir du M\u00e9e,<\/a> the 18th-century house is where the German-born designer lived between 1986 and 1998. \u201cLagerfeld didn\u2019t just own it\u2014he used it,\u201d says Alexis Feyfant of Pyla Paris,<\/a> who has the listing. Indeed, as Feyfant points out, Lagerfeld shot various Chanel campaigns in the gardens, starring muses including Tatjana Patitz<\/a> and In\u00e8s de la Fressange.<\/a><\/p>\n

Set on 1.2 acres roughly an hour\u2019s drive from central Paris, the 5,400-square-foot residence comes with seven bedrooms, each of which has an en-suite bath and dressing room. There\u2019s also a chef\u2019s kitchen with a butcher-block island, crimson-red billiards room, and richly stained wood-sheathed bar. Sleeping quarters on the top floor feature exposed wooden beams and a steeply pitched ceiling.<\/p>\n

Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, sold the home in 1998 to Prince Ernst August of Hanover, per Robb Report,<\/a> with additional royalty moving in later: Princess Caroline of Monaco and her family resided on the grounds between 2004 and 2010.<\/p>\n

The current owner acquired the property\u2014which is equipped with a matching 2,000-square-foot guest cottage\u2014in 2014. \u201cThe house has been maintained over time, but it hasn\u2019t been overly transformed or \u2018over-renovated,\u2019\u201d says Feyfant. \u201cIt still feels authentic, with its original elements: parquet Versailles, moldings, fireplaces intact.\u201d<\/p>\n

The current listing comes amid news that Lagerfeld\u2019s former Left Bank office is now available for overnight stays<\/a> and just two years since his longtime Quai Voltaire flat<\/a> sold for $10.8 million at auction.<\/p>\n
