{"id":45269,"date":"2026-07-02T22:44:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T22:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/45269\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T22:44:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T22:44:13","slug":"geely-ex2-aims-for-renault-5-ahead-of-august-2026-uk-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/45269\/","title":{"rendered":"Geely EX2 aims for Renault 5 ahead of August 2026 UK debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\tThe Geely EX2 will go on sale in the UK this August, where it aims to stake its claim in the increasingly competitive supermini class.<\/p>\n<p>\nUpon arrival, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geelyauto.co.uk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">five-seat Geely EX2<\/a>, which was China\u2019s best-selling car last year, aims to compete with<a href=\"https:\/\/evpowered.co.uk\/news\/renault-5-one-pedal-driving-uk-best-selling-ev\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> the UK\u2019s best-selling EV, the Renault 5<\/a>, along with the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/evpowered.co.uk\/news\/hyundai-ioniq-3-revealed-range-power-rivals\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hyundai Ioniq 3<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/evpowered.co.uk\/news\/volkswagen-id-polo-reveal-power-specification-price\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Volkswagen ID Polo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Known as the \u2018Xingyuan\u2019 at home, the Geely EX2 comes with a single, rear-mounted motor generating either 78bhp or 114bhp. The battery choices are expected to be either a 30.1kWh unit or a 40.2kWh pack. In larger-battery format, Geely says the EX2 will return up to 214 miles on the WLTP test cycle. That puts it behind the 252-mile Renault and the Hyundai and VW, which are expected to deliver up to 308 miles and 280 miles respectively.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28652\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Geely-EX2-side-profile-1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Geely EX2 side profile\" width=\"834\" height=\"567\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the EX2\u2019s launch next month, Geely has yet to announce specifications and pricing, however, brand\u2019s other cars \u2013 the EX5 EV and Starray PHEV \u2013 both offer substantial equipment lists for relatively low prices, suggesting the EX2 will similarly aim to undercut key opponents.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28648\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Geely-EX2-rear-view-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"590\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The Geely EX2 is vital to the Chinese automotive giant\u2019s aggressive UK growth plans. It aims to have a portfolio of 10 models by 2029 and reach 100,000 sales the following year.<\/p>\n<p>To contextualise how ambitious Geely\u2019s UK plans are, it took Kia from 1991 to 2022 to hit the 100,000 vehicle mark.
