Listen, my girlfriends have been telling me a thing or two about F1 fever. Over the past few years, it\u2019s spread like a plague, slowly but surely contaminating the masses and recruiting high-stakes propagandists to its cause. These are people I trust, people I look up to. But when they told me I should consider spending huge chunks of my sacred Sundays staring at cars speeding around a track, I wondered whether they imagined I\u2019d been a Hot Wheels kind of kid. I simply didn\u2019t see the appeal. But when an invitation from Louis Vuitton landed in my inbox, offering me a day at Britain\u2019s very own Grand Prix in Silverstone, I thought: maybe the joke\u2019s on me. Maybe I\u2019m the one missing out. It was time to give the F1 boys a chance. And what a time was had.<\/p>\n

Walking through the boujee corners of the paddock, slowly being indoctrinated by drivers so passionate about their sport that they become glorified poster boys for newcomers like myself, eager to answer all my (they say there are no stupid questions, but there often are) stupid questions, I experienced something close to a cathartic awakening. As the event\u2019s official sponsor \u2014 and the maker of the deliciously opulent trunk that carries the winner\u2019s trophy (this year\u2019s champion being Ferrari\u2019s Monegasque driver, Charles Leclerc) \u2014 Louis Vuitton gave me a front-row seat to a realisation that hit much closer to home. Much like fashion, motorsport is built on craftsmanship. It\u2019s the almost obsessive attention to detail. The tightly controlled environments. The reverence for the human hand. The battalion of unsung warriors working towards a single goal. There is no such thing as a one-man show. Turns out, I\u2019m a victim of the plague too. Who\u2019s joining me for the ride?<\/p>\n
