Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling seven vehicles, including certain 2022 and 2024 Jeep\u00ae Grand Cherokee, 2023 Jeep Wagoneer, 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, and 2024 Jeep Wagoneer L models, due to a software issue affecting the shifter module.<\/p>\n

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the software defect may prevent the transmission gear selection indicator<\/a> from displaying the selected gear. As a result, the affected vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 102, Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Without a visible gear selection indicator, the driver may be unable to confirm the transmission\u2019s current gear position, increasing the risk of unintended vehicle movement or a vehicle rollaway, which could lead to a crash.<\/p>\n

The affected vehicles include:<\/p>\n

Four 2022 and 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee models built between July 22, 2024, and August 8, 2024.
\nOne 2023 Jeep Wagoneer built on February 21, 2023.
\nOne 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L built on July 2, 2024.
\nOne 2024 Jeep Wagoneer L built on December 18, 2023.<\/p>\n

Stellantis identified the affected vehicles using engineering release records and production data. Vehicles built outside these production dates or verified to display the transmission shift position correctly before delivery are not included in the recall.<\/p>\n

According to the recall documents, there are no warning signs prior to the failure. Once the condition occurs, however, a \u201cService Shifter\u201d message will appear in the instrument cluster.<\/p>\n

On November 04, 2025, the FCA US LLC (\u201cFCA US\u201d) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (\u201cTSRC\u201d) organization opened an investigation into some 2022-2024 MY Jeep Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, Wagoneer, and Wagoneer L vehicles that may have been built with shifters modules that experience a loss of communication with the PRND display module and not indicating the transmission shift positions.
\nFrom November 2025, through June 2026, FCA US TSRC reviewed warranty data, field records, and customer assistance records to understand potential customer consequence and vehicle scope.
\nFrom November 2025, through June 2026, FCA US TSRC held regular meetings with FCA US Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier Operations to understand all potential failure modes related to the shifter module display performance.
\nOn June 10, 2026, FCA US TSRC organization recognized that a vehicle build issue existed on certain vehicles related to a shifter module display not indicating the gear positions and the relationship to each other, potentially resulting in a noncompliance with FMVSS No.102.
\nOn June 25, 2026, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, that a noncompliance to FMVSS No. 102 exists in certain vehicles.<\/p>\n

Dealers will update the shifter module software free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning August 21, 2026. Affected Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) became searchable on the NHTSA website beginning July 9, 2026.<\/p>\n
