{"id":52291,"date":"2026-07-16T13:21:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T13:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/52291\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T13:21:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T13:21:08","slug":"totalenergies-and-partners-commission-216-mw-solar-500-mwh-battery-hybrid-project-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/52291\/","title":{"rendered":"TotalEnergies and Partners Commission 216 MW Solar, 500 MWh Battery Hybrid Project in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TotalEnergies, in partnership with Hydra Storage Holding and Reatile Renewables, has inaugurated the Hydra Project, a 216 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant paired with a 500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in South Africa\u2019s Northern Cape province.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.growatt.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1784208068_666_Growatt-Banner1.png\" alt=\"Growatt\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Described as the largest hybrid renewable energy project in Africa, the facility combines utility-scale solar generation with battery storage to deliver dispatchable renewable electricity, supporting South Africa\u2019s Just Energy Transition and efforts to decarbonize its power sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with state-owned utility Eskom, the project will supply 75 MW of dispatchable renewable electricity to the national grid between 5:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. daily. The facility is expected to generate more than 400 GWh of electricity annually, enough to meet the power needs of approximately 200,000 South African households.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Hydra project enables us to supply dispatchable renewable power to the South African grid, strengthening the country\u2019s energy security while decarbonising its electricity generation,\u201d said Magali Pailh\u00e9, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Southern Africa. She added that the project further expands the company\u2019s renewable energy portfolio in South Africa, the continent\u2019s largest electricity market by power consumption.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hydra Project has been developed by a consortium comprising TotalEnergies (35%), Hydra Storage Holding (35%), and Reatile Renewables (30%).
