The Hungarian press is covering Viktor Orban\u2019s loss today.\u00a0Nepszava\u00a0talks about the \u201cbrutal defeat\u201d of Orban\u2019s Fidesz party.\u00a0The free newspaper Metropol quotes Orban on its front page this morning.\u00a0The weekly newspaper HGV describes the election as historic.\u00a0The\u00a0tabloid\u00a0Blikk, which is usually very pro Orban headlines with \u201cLove has triumphed”, quoting young\u00a0Hungarians\u00a0celebrating on the Chain Bridge in\u00a0Budapest.\u00a0Opposition website 444 headlines simply with: \u201cwe have gone from the saddest country to the happiest\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
European papers are also interested in the result. In Germany,\u00a0the weekly paper\u00a0Die Zeit says that\u00a0Democracy is the true winner of the elections.\u00a0Politico\u00a0argues that Orban lost his populist touch. In Italy, La Repubblica describes the result as a slap to the right and to Washington.\u00a0The\u00a0Guardian\u00a0offers up a profile of Peter Magyar and goes over his\u00a0\u201cdeep entanglements\u201d with Orban\u2019s Fidesz party.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the pope\u2019s visit to Algeria\u00a0today\u00a0is making the front pages. The\u00a0Algerian daily El\u00a0Moudjahid\u00a0is glad to see that all eyes are on Algeria for the Pope\u2019s official visit to the country.\u00a0The front page of El Watan shows Pope Leo walking in the footsteps of St Augustin. In France, the catholic paper La Croix\u00a0celebrates the first pope to visit Algeria.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Next, congratulations are due\u00a0to\u00a0a number\u00a0of people. The Guardian has an article about Lieutenant General Susan Coyle, who is going to become the first woman to lead the Australian army.\u00a0In a similar vein, the Athletic reports that Union Berlin\u00a0Football Club has made history by naming Marie-Louise\u00a0Eta\u00a0as\u00a0head\u00a0coach. She becomes the first woman to\u00a0be given the top job at a men\u2019s team in one of Europe\u2019s five biggest leagues.
