{"id":57642,"date":"2026-07-27T20:34:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T20:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/57642\/"},"modified":"2026-07-27T20:34:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T20:34:12","slug":"cma-cgm-worlds-largest-lng-powered-container-ship-calls-at-tangier-med","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/57642\/","title":{"rendered":"CMA CGM World\u2019s Largest LNG-Powered Container Ship Calls at Tangier Med"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Agadir \u2013 The CMA CGM NOTRE DAME, one of the world\u2019s largest container ships and the largest vessel operating under the French flag, made its first call at the Tangier Med port on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The 400-meter-long vessel arrived at the TC2 container terminal operated by Eurogate as part of CMA CGM\u2019s French Asia Line (FAL 3), a strategic service connecting major Asian ports with Europe. The route includes calls at Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Singapore, Le Havre, Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Tangier Med.<\/p>\n<p>Powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the CMA CGM NOTRE DAME has a capacity of 24,212 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), making it one of the largest container ships currently in operation worldwide. The vessel began its maiden commercial voyage from Shanghai before reaching France and Europe in early July.<\/p>\n<p>Commitment to innovation<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, CMA CGM <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cmacgm-group.com\/en\/news-media\/cma-cgm-group-takes-delivery-cma-cgm-notre-dame-worlds-largest-lng-powered-containership\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a> the new-generation ship \u201creaffirms its commitment to the energy transition of maritime transport, while strengthening its capacity to support the growth of global trade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The vessel is the first of a series of 10 LNG-powered 24,000 TEU container ships that will be progressively deployed between 2026 and 2028 on major maritime routes worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the Tangier Med stopover, CMA CGM Morocco Managing Director Florian Goupil described the port as \u201ca strategic partner of the Group and a major hub in our global maritime network.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The executive added that the CMA CGM NOTRE DAME \u201cillustrates CMA CGM\u2019s commitment to innovation and the decarbonization of maritime transport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ship is designed to reduce its environmental footprint through several technologies, including an LNG propulsion system compatible with bio-LNG from renewable sources and, in the future, synthetic e-methane.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It also features an aerodynamic windshield system to reduce energy consumption, an 18,600-cubic-meter LNG tank, and smart energy-management solutions.<\/p>\n<p>According to CMA CGM, the vessel is equipped with a fully digitalized bridge incorporating artificial intelligence tools, augmented reality systems, and advanced navigation technologies to improve safety and optimize routes, speed, and energy consumption.<\/p>\n<p>The stopover also reflected Tangier Med\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moroccoworldnews.com\/2026\/05\/292274\/sfc-automotive-solutions-opens-e28m-plant-in-tangier-med-creating-900-jobs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">growing<\/a> capacity to accommodate the world\u2019s largest vessels.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tangier Med recorded nearly 17,000 vessel calls in 2025, including around 1,300 ships exceeding 290 meters in length.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Agadir \u2013 The CMA CGM NOTRE DAME, one of the world\u2019s largest container ships and the largest vessel&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":57643,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13062],"tags":[2213,22579,36233,36234],"class_list":["post-57642","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-cma-cgm","tag-cma-cgm","tag-cma-cgm-group","tag-cma-cgm-notre-dame","tag-tangier-med-port"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/57642","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=57642"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/57642\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/57643"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=57642"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=57642"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=57642"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
