In some stores, strong fragrance sampling may also be minimised where possible to further reduce sensory overload.

The Australian rollout forms part of Sephora’s global launch of Quiet Hours, making it the first beauty retailer to implement the initiative at scale across all regions in which it operates. The program follows a successful pilot across 32 stores in eight markets and was developed in consultation with the neurodiversity community, including accessibility specialists Open Inclusion and Purposeful Futures, alongside Sephora employee resource groups.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, more than 5.5 million Australians, or one in five people, were living with disability in 2022, highlighting the growing importance of creating more accessible and inclusive retail environments.

George Tsoukalas, General Manager of Sephora Australia and New Zealand, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to ensuring every customer feels welcome in-store.

“At Sephora, we believe everyone should feel welcome and comfortable when they walk into our stores. Quiet Hours is an important step in creating an environment where more Australians can discover and experience beauty in a way that works for them,” he said. “Every Tuesday from 10:30am to 11:30am, our teams will create a calmer in-store environment through simple but meaningful adjustments to music, lighting and digital screens. Sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest difference to how someone feels, and we’re proud to introduce an initiative that reflects the diverse needs of the communities we serve.”

Globally, the pilot delivered strong results, with most neurodivergent shoppers reporting Quiet Hours significantly improved their in-store experience, while 90% of customers agreed the initiative made Sephora stores feel more inclusive and welcoming.

Christine Hemphill, Founder of Open Inclusion, said the initiative demonstrates how listening directly to neurodivergent and sensory-sensitive customers can reshape the retail experience.

“It’s a powerful example of how listening to broader perspectives can help ambitious, customer-oriented brands design spaces and service experiences where all consumer needs are considered and included. This is the future of retail,” she said.

Chloe Matharu, of Purposeful Futures, added that by becoming the first global beauty retailer to introduce Quiet Hours, Sephora is setting a new benchmark for inclusive retail, proving that some of the most impactful innovations are those designed with accessibility in mind.

The Australian rollout will be supported by in-store signage, digital communications and social media content to help customers understand what to expect during Quiet Hours.

Sephora Australia has launched Quiet Hours across all of its Australian stores, introducing a dedicated weekly shopping period…

[12718
27387,38226,4955,12733
post-61568","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sephora","tag-disability","tag-inclusivity","tag-lvmh","tag-sephora
["GET
