What happens when a career-driven woman\u2019s late mother sends her on a mission to revisit three past relationships? That\u2019s the premise of Hallmark+\u2019s new limited series Paris Is Always a Good Idea, starring Lacey Chabert as Chelsea Martin and Scott Michael Foster as her complicated colleague Jason Knightly.<\/p>\n
Chabert says the show\u2019s central \u201cwhat if\u201d premise is what drew her in immediately. \u201cI love a what-if story,\u201d she said. \u201cWhat if I had turned left instead of right? Like, it offers up such a fun perspective. And while doing so, she realizes the love of her life may be standing right in front of her.\u201d<\/p>\n
The series is adapted from a bestselling novel, and Chabert – who read the book before signing on – praised the writers\u2019 work translating it to screen. \u201cIt made me laugh, it made me want to turn the page,\u201d she said. \u201cSo it was a joy to bring to life.\u201d<\/p>\n
Foster, who plays Knightly, describes his character\u2019s dynamic with Chelsea as one that slowly shifts from friction to something more. \u201cTheir relationship\u2019s a little bit tenuous,\u201d he explained. \u201cThey butt heads a little bit – a little bit of a rivalry at the office – but then, over time, they realize that they\u2019ve got quite a bit more in common.\u201d<\/p>\n
Production took the cast through Paris and San Sebasti\u00e1n, Spain – which stood in for both Ireland and Southern Spain. Foster called the shoot a surreal experience from start to finish. \u201cIt was like a pinch-me moment the whole time we were there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
For Chabert, the show represents something bigger than a romantic adventure. \u201cThat guaranteed uplifting happy ending is something I\u2019m really proud to be a part of because I feel like it adds just a little bit of goodness back into the world,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I think we need that now more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n
Foster hopes audiences feel transported. \u201cI want people to come away and say, \u2018Wow, that was exhilarating just to watch that show,\u2019 and feel like I was able to go on a journey myself afterwards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
New episodes of Paris Is Always a Good Idea drop every Thursday through August 27th on Hallmark+.<\/p>\n
