In its last prep matches before June, <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/brazil-france-soccer-mbappe-vinicius-junior-world-cup-52f7a0038a6bd100bc3e696032546c27\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Les Bleus beat Brazil<\/a> 2-1 and <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/france-colombia-score-9dcc5059a90cb136e400a6922b87f4c0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Colombia 3-1.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>France coach Didier Deschamps complained of long security lines in the U.S. and cited traffic getting to Foxborough, Massachusetts, site of his team\u2019s first-round meeting with Norway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hardest part is the roads that take a long time, too long, and so to come to the stadium it took us an hour and 15 minutes before a match,\u201d he said through a translator of a March friendly against Brazil. \u201cIt\u2019s not easy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Deschamps, the coach since 2012, intends to step down after the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>France<\/p>\n<p>With a title, Les Bleus would become just the fifth nation with three or more championships, joining Brazil (five), Germany and Italy (four each) and Argentina (three).<\/p>\n<p>Mbapp\u00e9 won the Golden Boot at the 2022 tournament, when he scored eight goals and joined England\u2019s Geoff Hurst in 1966 as the only players with a hat trick in a men\u2019s World Cup final. In his prime at age 27, he heads into June friendlies with 56 international goals, one shy of Olivier Giroud\u2019s France record.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2022 final, France lost to Argentina on penalty kicks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPersonally, I\u2019m never going to get over it,\u201d Mbapp\u00e9 said.<\/p>\n<p>Since winning the 2018 tournament, France lost to Switzerland in the round of 16 at the European Championship in 2021, to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final and to Spain in a Euro 2024 semifinal.<\/p>\n<p>Norway<\/p>\n<p>In the World Cup for the just the fourth time and first time since 1998, Norway is led by 25-year-old Erling Haaland, among the world\u2019s most prolific strikers. He has topped 30 goals in four straight seasons for Manchester City and with 55 international goals heading into June is his nation\u2019s career leader.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great responsibility to bring Norway to the World Cup,\u201d Haaland said. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot on my shoulders and that\u2019s what I\u2019ve been working to do.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>His father, Alfie, played for Norway at the 1994 World Cup in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander S\u00f8rloth, 30, is another prolific Norwegian scorer. Midfielder Martin \u00d8degaard, Norway\u2019s captain, has been slowed this season by knee and shoulder injuries.<\/p>\n<p>This will be Norway\u2019s first major tournament since it was eliminated the group stage of its only European Championship appearance in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Senegal <\/p>\n<p>The Lions of Teranga are heading to their third consecutive World Cup amid a dispute with Morocco over which is the legitimate African champion.<\/p>\n<p>Senegal defeated Morocco in the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/africa-cup-senegal-morocco-3c66008dc043132757b1cb4be3bce080\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">final of the Africa Cup of Nations<\/a> in January but was <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/afcon-morocco-senegal-overturned-ruling-deee4ed18e0f49b5836cf6c672df9193\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stripped of the title<\/a> because of team conduct near the game\u2019s end. <\/p>\n<p>The African soccer confederation said Senegal had forfeited the match when coach Pape Thiaw brought his players off the field for 15 minutes to protest a late penalty kick awarded to Morocco. Senegal has <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/afcon-title-senegal-morocco-cas-appeal-b9606694538c2fd6077eae3e9c87854a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">appealed<\/a> the decision.<\/p>\n<p>Senegal also won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 when it beat Egypt on penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw in the final.
