Instead, he turned the charge of human-rights violations back on Iran’s critics.

“Countries like France should stop lecturing the world about ‘human rights’ and international law,” he said.

His argument was that Western backing for Israel in Gaza and during military action against Iran had stripped those governments of the authority to condemn Tehran.

The exchange marks another escalation in the increasingly bitter confrontation between Iran and European governments, with human rights now becoming another front in a diplomatic battle already shaped by war, sanctions and geopolitical rivalry.

Iran has a message for France and other Western governments condemning its human-rights record: you have no moral…

[2
2652,68,40051,5,40049,40054,40053,923,40055,40048,26867,4632,40052,2880,40047,40050
post-64541","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-france","tag-capital-punishment","tag-death-penalty","tag-eu-statement","tag-france","tag-france-iran","tag-freedom-of-expression","tag-gaza-conflict","tag-human-rights","tag-iran-diplomacy","tag-iran-eu-clash","tag-iran-executions","tag-iran-protests","tag-iran-sanctions","tag-political-prisoners","tag-protester-executions","tag-western-hypocrisy
["GET
