A functioning backup camera is a federal safety requirement here in the United States, and Stellantis is finding out the hard way what happens when hundreds of thousands of rearview cameras run the risk of not working properly. That\u2019s because the automotive conglomerate announced a new recall<\/a> on Monday, August 17, covering more than 950,000 late-model vehicles from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram.<\/p>\n

The core issue is that faulty radio software may prevent the rearview camera image from appearing on the infotainment screen, according to a Stellantis press release<\/a>. 2026\u20132027 Chrysler Pacifica<\/a>, Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid and Voyager minivans, 2026\u20132027 Dodge Chargers<\/a>, 2026 Jeep Cherokee, Compass, Gladiator, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee \/ Grand Cherokee L, and Grand Wagoneer \/ Grand Wagoneer L vehicles, plus 2026 Ram 1500 and 2500 pickups and ProMaster and ProMaster EV vans, are all included in the recall.<\/p>\n

848,511 units included in the callback are U.S.-market models, while an additional 82,869 vehicles in Canada and 7969 ones in Mexico have also been recalled; an additional 15,736 units from outside North America are also included in the recall, for a total of 954,885. Stellantis says that if the rearview camera feed does not appear, drivers should use extra caution, and rely on their side view and rearview mirrors when reversing. The fix is relatively simple, and an increasingly common remedy in this day and age: customers will receive an over-the-air radio software update that can be selected on the vehicle\u2019s media screen. Because the recall population is limited to 2026 and newer models, Stellantis can update every model over the airwaves. And most importantly, the automaker is unaware of any injuries or accidents related to the issue.<\/p>\n
