Additional vehicles will be recalled in Canada, Mexico, and certain markets outside North America. The grand total is estimated at 955,085 automobiles worldwide.

If you’ve ever thrown a Ram 1500 into reverse and stared at a blank screen where your driveway should be on the infotainment system’s display, you are not alone. The campaign addresses a radio software bug that prevents the rearview camera image from appearing on the screen. Thankfully for affected customers, the free-of-charge remedy is coming over the air.

The affected roster reads like a who’s who of Stellantis North America’s current lineup. On the pickup truck front, Ram gets dinged with the 2026 model year 1500, 2500, and the ProMaster line of vans. On the minivan front, Chrysler is recalling the 2026 and 2027 model years of the Pacifica and Voyager.

Jeep takes the biggest hit with the 2026 model year Cherokee, Compass, Wrangler, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, and Grand Wagoneer. Dodge isn’t spared either, though the 2026 through 2027 Charger’s rearview camera glitch might be the least of your worries if you’re busy watching the tachometer.

Instead of a trip to authorized Stellantis North America dealers, the automaker will soon deploy an over-the-air radio software update. A prompt will appear on the media screen when the update becomes available.

Photo: Ram Trucks

What should customers do in the meantime? The multinational group headquartered in the Netherlands recommends that drivers remain aware of their surroundings and use their mirrors when reversing. In other words, pretend that rearview cameras are not federally mandated.

Stellantis North America is not aware of any related accidents stemming from the reported issue. That’s the kind of sentence automakers love to include in recalls, and for good reason. Looking at the bigger picture, a preventive measure is always better than a reaction to a pile of crash reports.

Recall notifications will hit mailboxes beginning in September 2026 with additional information and instructions for affected owners and lessees. If you’re the impatient type or if the screen has already gone dark mid-reverse, the customer care line is open at 1-800-853-1403. More details can also be found on the Mopar and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration websites.

The 2026 and 2027 model years are fresh metal, and a safety recall of this magnitude so early in their lifecycles is a reminder that modern vehicles are as much about code as they are about hybridization and Google built-in goodies. The over-the-air software update is the silver lining, with Stellantis joining a growing list of American and foreign automakers leveraging OTA rollouts to fix problems without dragging customers into service centers.

Tesla was the first major automaker to push OTA software updates in the US market. Back in November 2013, for example, the American electric vehicle manufacturer wirelessly recalibrated the ride height of the Model S after one too many reports of high-speed road debris striking underbody components.

Detroit’s third-largest automaker has issued a safety recall affecting no fewer than 848,511 vehicles in the United States…

[13129
13579,29150,16213,13572,20760,13573,22079,20547,12112
post-67316","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-stellantis","tag-chrysler","tag-chrysler-pacifica","tag-dodge-charger","tag-jeep","tag-jeep-grand-cherokee","tag-ram","tag-ram-1500","tag-recall","tag-stellantis
["GET
