Nor will she be celebrating, this September, the 20th anniversary of the release of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, in which her appearance in a hoop skirt and powdered wig provided one of the film’s funniest and most surprising moments. She died on Monday, August 17, in a car accident with her partner, movie producer Nicolas Altmayer (the OSS 117 trilogy, The First Day of the Rest of Your Life, Young & Beautiful, and, more recently, Alpha), near Thouars in western France as confirmed by the local prosecutor’s office on Tuesday.

“Mathilde loved life with a passion. With the passing of Mathilde, Dior is losing an incredible professional, and I have lost a loyal friend,” Delphine Arnault, chairman and CEO of Christian Dior Couture, shared in a post on Dior’s Instagram account. “Her optimism and courage commanded admiration. We will sorely miss her smile and her talent. My heartfelt condolences go to her family and loved ones.”

Favier was the quintessential Parisian, with a mischievous spirit worthy of the characters created by Kiraz, a cartoonist she loved. She was invariably polite and unfailingly greeted everyone with her signature smile. She was also always perfectly dressed—mostly, though not exclusively, in Dior. While Favier was little known to the general public, she was one of those people who define Paris—a heroine worthy of a Proust novel, but with a 2026 twist as she was immersed in the world of celebrities and social media. From a well-to-do family in western Paris, she was educated at, among other schools, the Institut de l’Assomption on Rue de Lübeck in the 16th arrondissement where she met her lifelong friends Camille Miceli (now artistic director at Pucci) and designer Vanessa Seward. Favier, like her half-sister Victoire de Castellane (now artistic director of the jewelry department at Dior), was introduced to the world of fashion by her uncle Gilles Dufour, a close associate of Karl Lagerfeld’s at Chanel.

She brought her imagination, love of celebration, and sense of style first to Glamour magazine before roles at major fashion houses, starting with Prada, where she spent 11 years, and Dior, where she had been working for the past 14 years.

Mathilde Favier, Dior’s director of public relations, will no longer welcome celebrities to the house’s headquarters on Paris’s…

[12728
2793,3551,5,607,2097,4955,18868,13965,30,6504,41786
post-67632","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-christian-dior","tag-christian-dior","tag-dior","tag-france","tag-french","tag-karl-lagerfeld","tag-lvmh","tag-obituaries","tag-obituary","tag-paris","tag-paris-fashion-week","tag-sofia-coppola
["GET
