{"id":68841,"date":"2026-08-24T05:09:31","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T05:09:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/68841\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T05:09:31","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T05:09:31","slug":"france-faces-major-grid-resilience-test-says-globaldata","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/68841\/","title":{"rendered":"France faces major &#8216;grid resilience test&#8217;, says GlobalData"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">France is likely to face a significant test of grid resilience in the coming years as <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/category\/renewable-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">renewable energy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/tag\/energy-storage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">energy storage<\/a> scale up alongside the country\u2019s continued reliance on nuclear power, according to new analysis from GlobalData.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/tag\/globaldata\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">GlobalData<\/a>\u2018s report, France Power Market Trends and Analysis by Capacity, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Regulations, Key Players and Forecast to 2035, France\u2019s nuclear capacity is expected to remain at between 61GW and 63GW from 2025 to 2035, with incremental growth driven by reactor upgrades and life extensions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/tag\/solar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">solar<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/tag\/wind\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">wind<\/a> capacity is expected to nearly double over the same timeframe, however variability in their output heightens the need for flexible resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Market mechanisms\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/tag\/france\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">France<\/a> should strengthen market mechanisms so that flexibility and dispatchability are properly rewarded through capacity payments, ancillary services, and stable contracts for storage and backup power,\u201d commented Attaurrahman Ojindaram Saibasan, power analyst at GlobalData.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe country also needs to streamline permitting for storage, maintain pumped hydro infrastructure, speed up battery deployment, and establish clear regulatory pathways and investment support for small modular reactors (SMRs).\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to GlobalData, large hydropower and pumped storage will play an important role in managing daily and seasonal variations, while battery storage systems will similarly become increasingly important for short-duration shifts, including frequency regulation and support during evening peaks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While gas-fired power plants are declining in share, they may also be required to play a role in providing additional supply during periods of low renewable generation, or maintenance.
