Renault has introduced a series of updates for its electric 5 hatchback which aim to make the popular EV even more efficient.<\/p>\n

Just over two years since it first went on sale, the new 5 has been made slightly more aerodynamic thanks to redesigned wing mirrors and lower body areas. Renault says the 5 now has \u2018optimised\u2019 battery electronics.<\/p>\n

As a result, the 40kWh model should now return up to 196 miles of range \u2013 three more than before \u2013 while the 52kWh Comfort Range model gets a claimed total of 267 miles, up from 255 previously.<\/p>\n

However, Renault has said that the smaller 40kWh model is soon to switch out its powertrain for the one from the new Twingo. It will see a 36.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery equipped to the 5 which, though smaller in capacity, is said to offer higher battery energy density than the older version. In all, range will drop by six miles due to the switch. Renault says that this model will be able to charge at up to 80kW, too.<\/p>\n

While LFP batteries are usually cheaper than nickel manganese cobalt versions \u2013 which are currently equipped to the 5 \u2013 there\u2019s no word on whether this change will bring down the car\u2019s entry-level price.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, the 5 has gained a new exterior colour \u2013 Flame Red \u2013 while new personalisation options come in the form of a \u2018Starry Black\u2019 roof. Alloy wheels equipped to Techno-grade cars can now be given an optional golf finish, too, while updated decals are there to choose from for the roof and wing.<\/p>\n

Iconic-trim cars now get blue upholstery instead of blue, too.<\/p>\n

A new e-call system which supports 4G mobile networks will feature on the updated 5, and a new Smart driving mode will intelligently switch between different modes depending on driving style. For example, the system might now work out that Sport mode is needed for an overtake, while Eco could be deployed when driving around town.<\/p>\n

Google\u2019s Gemini AI-powered assistant will now feature on the 5, too, replacing the older Google Assistant system. It\u2019ll allow drivers to have a full conversation with the system and allow them to look up information and finish \u2018more sophisticated tasks\u2019 via voice command alone.<\/p>\n
