The top-spec version of the 5, with its 150hp electric motor and 52kWh battery, will get more range thanks to, says Renault: \u201cAerodynamic enhancements and optimised battery electronics.\u201d<\/p>\n

Basically, it means an extra 20km of range on the WLTP test, rising from 410km as was, to 430km now. Not a dramatic increase, but still significant.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The 40kWh battery version, with its 120hp motor, also benefits from more range now, but it\u2019s a comparatively small rise in range, from 312km to 315km.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
There will also now be a new entry-level model, which will use the more affordable 36.5kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery from the new Renault Twingo.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n That will have a 110hp motor, and a quoted range of up to 305km.\u00a0 It gets 6.6kW AC charging and 80kW DC charging capability too – less than that of the other 5s, but still enough for many.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n There\u2019s no confirmation yet that this model will come to right-hand-drive markets such as Ireland, but if it does, it should result in a price cut for the entry-level 5.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n The Renault 5 is also getting some new colour options, including Metallic Schist Grey and a striking Flame Red.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n But it\u2019s smaller tweaks to the existing trim versions that have us excited because thanks to a new optional gold finish for the alloy wheels that come with Techno and Ionic specs, you can now basically make yourself a modern electric Clio Williams replica if you pick that in conjunction with the existing Midnight Blue paint.<\/p>\n

There are also new contrast roof trim colours – you can now have Starry Black roof and a Red or Warm Titanium roofline – and inside there\u2019s a new Heathered Blue seat trim in place of the existing Heathered Yellow.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s an update for the emergency e-calling system which makes it compatible with 4G networks, and a new magnetic wireless phone charger with the new Qi2 charging standard which Renault says can add 50 per cent battery capacity to your phone in just one hour while preventing overheating.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n There\u2019s also a new Smart Driving Mode, which is essentially an auto function for the existing My Sense adjustable driving modes, so now the 5 can switch between Eco, Comfort and Sport depending on how you\u2019re driving.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n This new automated setup means that the driving mode button will disappear from the steering wheel, but you\u2019ll still be able to manually change modes through the touchscreen, or using voice control.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n Renault will also update its internet connectivity packages, and there\u2019s the addition of the Google Gemini AI assistant to the infotainment setup.\u00a0<\/p>\n
