Buying a luxury fragrance can already cost a lot. But most customers probably don\u2019t expect the store to eventually tell them they can\u2019t come back for another refill.<\/p>\n
Louis Vuitton lets customers refill certain empty fragrance bottles instead of buying a new one. Still, that doesn\u2019t mean customers can get as many refills as they want, especially when they are buying far more than someone would normally use.<\/p>\n
That is what TikTok<\/a> creator Joe (@joedeparfumm) claims happened to him at Louis Vuitton<\/a>. Joe, who owns Fragrance Culture and posts about cologne, says the brand will no longer refill his bottle of Imagination after he reached its limit. His video has received 3.6 million views.<\/p>\n Well, There\u2019s the Catch <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m banned from Louis Vuitton and they legitimately will not let me refill this bottle,\u201d he tells viewers while holding up his empty Imagination bottle. According to the fragrance enthusiast, employees told him he had reached his refill limit for the entire year. He claims the restriction goes beyond the one bottle and that he cannot make other purchases from the company either.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve just never seen a brand not take people\u2019s money, especially on something with such a high margin like cologne,\u201d he adds. \u201cBro, it\u2019s crazy.\u201d Louis Vuitton does offer an official fragrance refill service, but not every bottle can simply be filled anywhere. The company states that eligible perfume and cologne bottles can be refilled at select stores carrying its fragrance collection, and customers need to bring the bottle in completely empty.\u00a0<\/p>\n The company\u2019s rules around how much one customer can buy are also fairly strict. Louis Vuitton\u2019s U.S. legal notices<\/a> state that its products are sold for a customer\u2019s \u201cpersonal use or as a gift.\u201d Its current purchase limits allow no more than three perfumes per day, six perfumes within four consecutive weeks, and 12 perfumes within 12 consecutive months. The company also limits customers to eight transactions within a four-week period.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Those terms matter here because Louis Vuitton says it can refuse transactions for two years if customers exceed its purchase limits. However, the policy does not publicly mention a 12-refill limit, so that specific claim comes from Joe.\u00a0<\/p>\n Louis Vuitton is known for keeping tight control over how its products are sold, and customers don\u2019t always know where those limits are until they run into them. Even a Louis Vuitton order can be canceled<\/a> after it has already been placed, so Joe isn\u2019t the first shopper to find that paying for a luxury product doesn\u2019t necessarily mean the transaction will go through.\u00a0<\/p>\n
