Peek vanished.

So, where the hell did he go?

Unfortunately, Peek’s prolonged absence was caused by back-to-back injuries that wiped out two separate comeback attempts and forced him to question whether his fighting career was over.

“It was hell for a little bit,” Peek recently told Fightwave. “I was getting ready for UFC Des Moines, and then I fractured my left leg. I actually did that on UFC premises, so they pulled me from that fight. Then I was getting ready for UFC Nashville. Sean Shelby had promised me a spot on that card, and then I blew my ACL, MCL and meniscus.”

After suffering another devastating setback, Peek found himself dealing with more than just the physical toll of rehabilitation.

“So, I had to do a little bit of mental gymnastics,” Peek said. “I was lost for a little bit, trying to figure out if it was my time to be done fighting or if it was just a test. I went to physical therapy long enough for them to get me better so that I could get to the woods. So, I hit the woods hunting whitetail deer, and that was my rehab for my injuries. Ultimately, I think of it all as a blessing because I had a lot of things that were wrong with me, injury-wise.”

Once healthy enough to begin his comeback, Peek decided to make several major changes.

The 31-year-old will drop to Featherweight for the first time in his professional career after previously competing primarily at Lightweight and occasionally fighting as high as Welterweight.

More importantly, Peek has reunited with longtime coach Jeff Powell, who helped guide him into UFC.

Peek spent his previous two training camps at ONYX in Colorado, where he said coaches attempted to tone down the reckless aggression that made him such an immediate fan favorite. Peek believes moving away from his natural fighting style contributed to his two consecutive losses, which he described as the worst performances of his career.

Now, Peek is healthy, competing in a new weight class and working once again with the coach who understands how to harness his controlled chaos.

Standing across from him will be Campbell, a prospect who should be more than willing to meet Peek in the center of the Octagon and trade heavy shots. That could be dangerous for both men, but it is exactly the kind of fight Peek wants after spending nearly two years watching from the sidelines.

Peek must still prove that his body can withstand the Featherweight cut and that his famously aggressive style remains effective following multiple serious injuries. However, if everything comes together in Paris, fans should finally see the violent version of Peek who initially captured their attention.

After two years of injuries, uncertainty, and hunting-based rehabilitation, Trevor Peek violence is officially back.

To checkout the latest and greatest UFC Paris: “Parnasse vs. Hooker” news and notes be sure to hit up our comprehensive event archive right here.

The madman from Tennessee is back!
