{"id":74481,"date":"2026-09-04T14:56:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T14:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/74481\/"},"modified":"2026-09-04T14:56:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T14:56:10","slug":"cma-cgm-raises-manaus-low-water-surcharge-to-us2315-per-teu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/74481\/","title":{"rendered":"CMA CGM raises Manaus low water surcharge to US$2,315 per TEU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/cma-ship-696x392.png\"   alt=\"cma ship\" title=\"cma ship\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"65\" data-end=\"182\">CMA CGM will increase its Low Water Surcharge (LWS) to US$2,315 per TEU for shipments to and from Manaus, Brazil.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"184\" data-end=\"279\">The new surcharge will take effect on 2 October 2026 and will apply to all equipment types.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"281\" data-end=\"389\">The carrier said the measure comes as falling water levels affect navigation across the Amazon River system.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon water levels fall rapidly<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"428\" data-end=\"568\">CMA CGM said water levels in the Negro and Amazon rivers fell faster in August than during the same period in recent years, except for 2024.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"570\" data-end=\"638\">Conditions are now approaching the critical levels recorded in 2023.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"640\" data-end=\"724\">The carrier cited a notice issued by the Western Amazon Harbour Master on 28 August.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"726\" data-end=\"841\">Authorities assess navigation conditions using river levels, bathymetric surveys and information from river pilots.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"928\">In particular, surveys monitor critical areas such as Foz do Madeira and Tabocal.<\/p>\n<p>Draft restrictions could begin in September<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"978\" data-end=\"1092\">According to CMA CGM, authorities expect possible Maximum Recommended Draft (MRD) restrictions from mid-September.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1162\">Further reductions could follow if water levels continue to decline.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1164\" data-end=\"1255\">As a result, the carrier expects to adjust vessel capacity, port calls and cargo movements.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1257\" data-end=\"1348\">CMA CGM will also use a floating pier and make other operational and logistics adjustments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1350\" data-end=\"1506\">The company said draft restrictions reduce available transport capacity.
