Global Airlines’ fleet is made up of a single Airbus A380 that bears the registration 9H-GLOBL. This jet has been parked at Tarbes\u2013Lourdes\u2013Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es Airport (LDE) for the past year. It had been operated by Hi Fly Malta and is now 13.9 years old. <\/p>\n

It’s impossible to know exactly what will come next. James Asquith, Global Airlines’ founder and CEO, has presented three objectives, as reported by aeroTELEGRAPH<\/a>: get the A380 airborne, add another jet to the fleet, and start flights between Great Britain and the Maldives. Simultaneously, Jessica Huffman Reese of Naples, USA, claiming to be the company’s creditor, has filed a liquidation petition. Therein lies the two deeply contrasting pathways.<\/p>\n

9H-GLOBL’s Grounding<\/p>\n

In mid-July 2025, 9H-GLOBL flew to LDE. The airline initially said that this would be just a short parking. “There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes that’s been happening over summer into autumn,” Asquith told Simple Flying after the plane had been grounded for 139 days. He explained that the parking was because the A380 had to undergo a D-check, with the assessment needing to happen after 12 years of operation. The Global Airlines<\/a> CEO said that it had been having trouble finding a slot for the check because of backlogs for the aircraft. “We’re only privy to what the industry allows us to do,” he said. <\/p>\n

Asquith refused to give a specific date that the aircraft would be back in the skies when he spoke with Simple Flying, but he did say that more news would become available “pretty shortly.” Clearly that did not happen.<\/p>\n

Simple Flying has contacted Global Airlines for comment.<\/p>\n

Asquith Suggests A Way Out Of The Problems<\/p>\n

The three targets proposed by Asquith could offer a pathway to getting the airline back on the right track. He hopes the airline will return to service before Christmas, according to his interview in the Metro<\/a>. The most obvious step is to get the A380 back into service. Yet, it still must complete the necessary D-check. There are no indications that the A380 is heading back to being operational.<\/p>\n

At the end of 2025, Global Airlines took steps towards growing its fleet. The airline supposedly acquired a 25-year-old Airbus A340 operated by Hi-Fly. Yet, the Portuguese charter operator told Business Insider<\/a> that the aircraft had a Global Airlines livery “solely for brand-promotion purposes” with the jet not truly being leased to the airline. The Instagram post embedded below shows this A340 at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS):<\/p>\n

The final target set by Asquith is to launch services between the UK and the Maldives, which he describes as “my dream holiday”. Asquith thinks he has spotted a gap in the market because of the small number of flights there from London Heathrow Airport<\/a> (LHR). Other destinations considered by Asquith include the USA, South America and the Far East. <\/p>\n

Could Global Airlines Go Into Liquidation?<\/p>\n

Clearly, an airline without active aircraft is missing an essential part of the business model. Global Airlines’ survival is now in question. Although there has been no known bankruptcy filing for Global Airlines, a liquidation petition was filed by the carrier’s creditor, represented by the commercial law firm Vedder Price. Liquidation hearings on the matter were scheduled for July 15 and September 2. These dates have now passed, although the results have not been made public.<\/p>\n

Very little information is publicly available on the airline’s alleged creditor, except that her address is in a luxury Florida<\/a>beachfront. She also may have filed a previous claim against Global Airlines in March 2026.
