A gym equipment company from Finland is bringing physical fitness to the homeless community of Paris.<\/p>\n

Inactivity is a growing public health concern, but especially in lower income communities.<\/p>\n

To address this challenge, Omnigym installed an outdoor gym at a homeless shelter in the French capital.<\/p>\n

They tested whether easy access to exercise would improve physical and mental wellbeing.<\/p>\n

The project collected anonymous data from residents as well as self-assessments to evaluate the impact.<\/p>\n

Now, one month later, Omnigym reached out to GNN to share some of their findings.<\/p>\n

The residents were asked to assess their physical health, mental well-being, sleep, mood, and energy levels\u2014as well as answer a few questions.<\/p>\n

80% of respondents reported improved physical health, since the equipment arrived.<\/p>\n

The new gym also delivered broader benefits. And respondents reported positive behavioral changes.<\/p>\n

90% of respondents said it has helped them meet or talk to other people.<\/p>\n

When asked what they appreciate most about the gym, one user said, \u201cA change in behavior. I smoke less.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another resident simply described it as \u201ca change\u201d in their life, \u201ceven if only a little\u201d.<\/p>\n

Omnigym partnered with Emma\u00fcs Solidarit\u00e9, a French nonprofit that supports people experiencing homelessness, to pilot the courtyard fitness unit.<\/p>\n

Kirsti Laasio, CEO of Omnigym, calls it The People\u2019s Gym<\/a>, and says the initiative addresses a need that is often overlooked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to democratize physical training and make it accessible to everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
