The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Grands Projets (SGP) have signed a financing agreement worth a total of EUR 3 billion for the construction of the Western section of Grand Paris Express Line 15.<\/p>\n

The initial tranche, worth EUR 500 million, was signed on 30 July 2026, the two institutions announced on 2 September.<\/p>\n

The Western section of Line 15 will be 22.4 km long and will serve 11 stations, crossing 14 densely populated municipalities in the Hauts-de-Seine and Seine-Saint-Denis departments.<\/p>\n

Line 15 will run between Pont de S\u00e8vres and Saint-Denis\u2013Pleyel. The entire section will be underground and will cross the Hauts-de-Seine and Seine-Saint-Denis departments, including the major business district of La D\u00e9fense.<\/p>\n

Around 600,000 passengers are expected to use this section every day once it enters service, which is scheduled for 2031.<\/p>\n

Together with the Eastern<\/a> and Southern sections, which are also under construction, Line 15 will eventually form a 75 km orbital route around Paris, making it the longest metro line in the European Union.<\/p>\n

The EIB has already provided EUR 3.5 billion through three separate financing packages between 2016 and 2023 for the construction of the Southern section of Grand Paris Express Line 15. This brings the EIB\u2019s total financing for Line 15 to EUR 6.5 billion.<\/p>\n

Grand Paris Express will connect Paris\u2019s outer areas<\/p>\n

Grand Paris Express is one of Europe\u2019s major urban transport infrastructure projects and aims to transform mobility across the Paris metropolitan area.<\/p>\n

The new network will expand low-carbon transport, connect major business and transport hubs, and improve links between areas that currently have limited access to public transport.<\/p>\n

By 2031, the Grand Paris Express project will add four new metro lines \u2013 Lines 15, 16, 17 and 18 \u2013 as well as an extension of Line 14.<\/p>\n

In total, the new Paris metro network will add 68 stations and around 200 km of new track. According to current estimates, the network will carry more than 3 million passengers per day from 2031.\"\"<\/p>\n

The first elements of the new network are already in operation. These include Line 14, which has been extended several times.<\/p>\n

In 2020, its third extension was opened, covering 5.8 km and four stations towards Mairie de Saint-Ouen.<\/p>\n

In June 2024, two further extensions were opened: a 14 km southern extension with seven stations to Orly Airport, and a 1.6 km northern extension to Saint-Denis\u2013Pleyel.<\/p>\n

Following these extensions, Line 14 became the longest existing line in the Paris metro network, with a total length of 30 km.<\/p>\n
