{"id":7756,"date":"2026-04-20T17:16:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T17:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/7756\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T17:16:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T17:16:09","slug":"karl-lagerfelds-former-estate-near-paris-lists-for-3-17m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/france\/7756\/","title":{"rendered":"Karl Lagerfeld&#8217;s former estate near Paris lists for $3.17M"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld\u2019s former 18th-century estate outside Paris,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pylaparis.fr\/annonce\/manoir-du-mee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Manoir du M\u00e9e<\/a>, has listed for \u20ac2.7 million \u2014 or around $3.17 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lagerfeld purchased the property, which was built in 1749 \u2014 40 years before the French Revolution \u2014\u00a0in late 1986 for an undisclosed price.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, he was three years into his celebrated role as Chanel\u2019s creative director and the force behind the fashion label\u2019s extraordinary revival. He was also still designing for Fendi and head of his own eponymous label. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/19\/obituaries\/karl-lagerfeld-dead.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Lagerfeld passed away<\/a> at age 85 in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Manoir du M\u00e9e was built 40 years before the French Revolution. Matteo Merea<\/p>\n<p>Lagerfeld owned the estate for 10 years. <\/p>\n<p>That said, it was also the setting for fashion shoots, when he personally photographed\u00a0In\u00e8s de la Fressange for Chanel campaigns. At the time, she was his muse, the face of Chanel and the model for the official bust of Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic.<\/p>\n<p>In July 1998,\u00a0Lagerfeld sold the home to a company owned by\u00a0Prince Ernst August of Hanover\u00a0and\u00a0Princess Caroline of Monaco.\u00a0The family lived in the property from around 2004 to 2010, before their split. The charming village of M\u00e9e-sur-Seine is also where their daughter Charlotte went to school.<\/p>\n<p>The 18th-century estate comes with extraordinary detail and charm. It\u2019s a cute story,\u201d said listing broker, Alexis Feyfant, president and founder of the brokerage firm <a href=\"http:\/\/PylaParis.fr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pyla Paris<\/a>.\u00a0Feyfant added that Lagerfeld also shot several Chanel campaigns in the estate\u2019s gardens with Tatjana Patitz.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The residence is a classic example of 18th-century French architecture, updated \u2014 and just 31 miles from Paris.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Manoir du\u00a0M\u00e9e\u00a0sits at the intersection of classical French architecture and fashion history,\u201d Feyfant said. \u201cThe house is built on a very pure, symmetrical composition: a central axis, balanced proportions and a rhythm of tall French windows that gives the fa\u00e7ade a sense of quiet elegance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An elegant home office shows off detailed moldings and paneling. Gamma-Rapho via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Lagerfeld\u2019s Paris apartment, which was \u201chighly curated and almost conceptual, this was a place he actually lived in and used,\u201d Feyfant said.\u00a0\u201cIt functioned as his countryside retreat, but also as a creative space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The seven-bedroom, 10-bath gated home is 5,400 square feet and sits on 1.25 acres. <\/p>\n<p>It is anchored by a chef\u2019s kitchen that opens to a dining area facing a large park. It then extends\u00a0to \u201cthe more intimate spaces, like the bar, game room and library \u2014 reflecting a rhythm of daily life rather than a staged environment,\u201d Feyfant said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The home also features a red-walled game room.
