I feel extremely lucky,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>But the renewal of their romantic relationship could turn into a potential conflict of interest, given Attal\u2019s national ambitions in France. The former PM, who is a lawmaker and leader of Macron\u2019s Renaissance Party, made no secret of his intention to run in the next presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>Attal is kicking off a tour of France and will hold a campaign rally in Paris at the end of May. In an interview with the weekly Le Point, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lepoint.fr\/politique\/gabriel-attal-je-pense-savoir-comment-il-faut-presider-la-france-QM3FW4IGCJB2DBSPP4CXKDXZYU\/?fbclid=IwY2xjawRTEvxleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFmcU95NEdQdXBNeXR1MFF0c3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHqEryfX8ftoxgDnAr2npvybQjuH9NCKK_L7AD1FWuEU_5QOjE6Tah3LrNtqh_aem_UmH4IAdvCvbBCECFIil6SQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">he said he knows \u201chow to preside [over] France\u201d<\/a> and is working on proposals on health, constitutional reform and labor relations. <\/p>\n<p>As a European commissioner, S\u00e9journ\u00e9 swore an oath upon taking office to prioritize the bloc\u2019s interests and be independent of national matters. His term runs beyond 2027 and will have to work with France\u2019s next president, who might be one of Attal\u2019s political rivals in the upcoming electoral campaign.<\/p>\n<p>But if Attal won the French presidential election, the European Commission would be entering uncharted territory.
